Alex Honnold is one of the best rock climbers on earth. What makes this gifted athlete so rare is that he often climbs some of the tallest cliffs with no rope to protect him if he falls.

What I love about Alex is you'll get 10.5 minutes of insightful and thought provoking comments and then he'll follow it up with a "you better train your balls off". Love that kid! Go Honnold

Alex was really gracious in the way he answered, too - he easily could have shown up the guy's lack of prep or made it tense by being like, well actually... but instead he just let it pass and gave a diplomatic answer.

I found it so uncomfortable when the interviewer asked about his parent*s* and alex having to respond with 'they' because it's pretty well known that he dropped out of college after his dad died.

His confidence in his routines should be taken as indication of his level of self & spatial awareness. So often I see these dissmisive vague reactions to Honnolds soloing, as if they simply know better and Alex is only steeped in courageous ignorance. Alex Honnold is in the midst of furthering his remarkable abilities everyday, and the guy finds it upon his wits to sympathize with the inadequacy of Honnolds living conditions. This wouldn't even pass as a nice conversation, the mans display of ignorance was upsetting.

What I saw in this was an inordinate amount of patience. It must be a drag having to repeat the same stuff over and over. How many times can you answer, "But aren't you afraid?" Alex always seems to handle his shit though.

In at least one interview he stated that being a subject of media "performances" provides the funding for his chosen life-style and so the "performances" are useful and acceptable. There is probably a ratio of interview questions to hours of climbing that is comfortable for Alex.

So much respect for Alex always and forever. So there are people who go 'wow, amazing' and then go 'but living out of a van! that does not fit with all my values about nice homes, golf at the weekend, maybe mar a lago one day for the very best... - I don't understand! my brain is going to implode!' HILARIOUS

@Petrucciation17 жыл бұрын
That's not sport anymore. It's irresponsible especially with focus on young climbers/kids. His strength and skills are amazing, no doubt, but free soloing itself has nothing to do with professionalism anymore.
@dukeofnuke24467 жыл бұрын
Dude you probably never climbed a rock or mountain because if you would have you would know that this is just the most amazing thing in the world. Yes it isn't sport it is love it is life.
@Petrucciation17 жыл бұрын
C'mon, let it me my decision how I define "life", ok!? And in fact, I already climbed several mountains and also rocks and it felt great, but I also got this feeling of "life" without the notorious permanent overexposition to danger... Strange, why is that always the first and often the only argument against points like the ones stated by me here?

It's great to see now, that the best in the world in most sports are around 6'3" height or so, which is the way it should be.Arnold Schwarzenegger, Usain Bolt, Cristiano Ronaldo, Steven Segal etc. It takes more to develop a taller body but it gets greater results.
+Adrian Calgary I sincerely hope you're making a joke. If not, then you sir, are ignorant on the subject of which you speak. First, Arnold wasn't an athlete, he was a bodybuilder, and there's a difference. Second, Steven Seagal is an overweight imposter, and NONE of the pseudo martial arts he claims to be expert in actually work. It's the reason you will never see an MMA fighter practice Aikido. Ever. Third, the sport itself determines who will be best at it. Gymnasts are inherently short people, because it makes it much easier to throw ones body through the air if you aren't tall and bulky. The average height of the top ten rock climbers in the world is 5'6", and they weigh in at a whopping 135 lbs. This follows the same reasoning as gymnasts, in that it is MUCH more difficult to move a 6'3", 230 pound body up a wall. Power to weight ratios are very important in some athletes, just like they are to sports cars. A lighter car needs less torque/horsepower to move it. Last, it absolutely does NOT take more to develop a human frame over 6 feet than it does one that's shorter, and to say they get better results is totally subjective. That's like saying a Maserati is better than a dump truck. Well, it sure wouldn't be much fun to haul dirt in a Maserati now would it? To juxtapose two things that are clearly very different and specialized for different tasks is actually a popular phrase, it's called "comparing apples to oranges".

+Sam Calin Perhaps both on steroids or cocaine or such, like Diego Maradona or Lance Armstrong, or Ben Johnson, all shorties, were... In the 21th century you've got to be a true physically developed specimen in order to become the the best in the world in sports.
@AdrianCalgary8 жыл бұрын
+rmann002 C'mon, Bruce Lee or JC van Damme were ballerinas... Steven Seagal was a true martial artist, as well as Dolph Lundgren, The closest shorter true fighter is Fedor Emilianenko 182cm You can add the swimmer Michael Phelps.
@bena33417 жыл бұрын
I am 6'4 and do enjoy more tall athletes excelling at things normally only shorter people could do. Alex Honnold is only 5'10 however
