The place sure is coming together with your vision for the property. Really liking everything you're putting in place to make it home sweet home. Here is a little bit of advice from someone who’s living through it. Eating that much potatoes and grease all the time put a lot of undue stress on your heart and give you a heart attack. That is because of the high potassium. I did get a heart attack. I got smarter and started eating more greens and being healthier. That’s all I am trying to tell you, Eric. I’m not saying you can’t eat potatoes and greasy foods but just less of it. And again it’s a blue shed and a Harley motorcycle or a hog. Later.

Have you thought about building a cat run? It's essentially the same as a massive bird aviary, but it's for cats. It doesn't need to have a roof (but some shelter helps), it mostly just needs to have sides that cats can't climb over. Where I live in Australia, it's now law that cats are no longer allowed to roam free (because they eat the native creatures). People must either keep their cats indoors or they can build a cat run. They're easy to build. I've helped to build a few of them. We added things like shade, plants, some climbing platforms and a huge water bowl for the cats. 🙂 To build one, you just need some cheap fence posts, such as the metal posts that were used as anchors for your solar panels, and some chook wire (chicken wire). You'd probably need to curve the top of the fencing inwards, at the top, or do something similar, because cats can usually still climb up most fencing.

Love the solar! Instead of going towards your driveway with more panels, maybe you could go up? Also, catching rain water is a great idea, you can use two runs of gutters, one between the panels to plug that gap and one on the bottom.

Solar is great but, It would be vital to your survival to get a private well for water, or even one of those pump things you see at campgrounds everywhere. In the odd event that you can't get water refilled anymore if something really bad happens for a couple years. Dry Food storage, lots of it. stays good for 25 years.

$70,000 to dig for water here thru this rock... And 2-3 years out if you have that kind of money. Or 1 cent per gallon to haul it yourself (which is what 99% over everyone does out here)

I really related with your solar/wind discussion. Being in Mt. Hood, Oregon area, I have a creek running under my front porch. I set up a hydro generator and have the batteries in the shed. I added one wind mill and now I'm always topped off. Solar might work up here, but I'd not want to be tredding out and brushing the snow off the panels every morning.

You just didn’t realize you had an outdoor cat 😂. Happened to me also and now he’s my barn cat. I live on close to 900acres though so it’s not the end of the world if he wanders off. He comes inside and hangs out as much as he wants and then goes outside and does his thing out there. I catch him all the time laying on top of the calves and some of the bulls. It’s strange he stays away from my milkers

I'm not criticizing you but you don't have 800 amp hours because In a series connection, the ampere-hour capacity of the battery bank remains the same as that of a single battery. The capacity of the battery bank is determined by the capacity of the individual batteries in the series. For example, if you connect four 12V batteries with a capacity of 100Ah each in series, the total capacity remains 100Ah. In a parallel connection of batteries, the ampere-hour capacity of the battery bank increases. When batteries are connected in parallel, the ampere-hour ratings of each individual battery are summed. For example, if you have four 12V batteries with a capacity of 100Ah each and connect them in parallel, the total capacity of the battery bank will be 400Ah (4 batteries x 100Ah each). dude, you are living my dream, good for you! I've watched you on and off for years!
@brianwall240
@brianwall240 3 ай бұрын
You are correct but I want to add to this: Power = voltage * current So if 4 batteries in series are 48v at 100 AH, they will store 4800 watt-hours. If 4 batteries are in parallel, they are 12v at 400 AH, they will still store 4800 watt hours. The decision on how to hook these up depends on efficiencies. Higher voltages with lower amps is generally more efficient so the 48v series connection is likely best if your inverter can handle it. If your inverter is meant for 48v, and you add more batteries you may have to have multiple blocks of 4 in series and then each block is parallel.
