Finishing up the lashings and lashing the stem pieces. The front and rear end of the canoe are now lashed and finished.
Next step will be to make spruce gum pitch glue to seal all the holes. And then prepare the sheathing and ribs to go inside the canoe.

I have been watching your work for this canoe and the birchbark canoe. I really appreciate the opportunity to learn how to build these. Thanks for teaching! I think I am going to try it this year.

Thank you. I appreciate that ! Looking forward to the spring to finish my 15 footer canoe i started last summer. Will be adding some more videos on that canoe when I try it out in the lake too.

Hyper instructif!!

Merci encore ! (Steve / NW).

I wonder if passing a straw through both holes, at the wide parts, and passing the root through the straw would have made that part of the lashing easier. Your fingers must be fairly calloused. Thanks for taking the time to film.

That is such a smart idea ! I never thought of that. I could use a small copper pipe of come sort that would be just small enough. I will try that next time ! :) thanks for the idea man and commenting.

I wanted to say that too. I've used similar trick for snaking wires. Pex and pen tubes work good also.

Are going to try this canoe in the water ? What is the length and is it for 2 or for 1 person? Thank you !

Epic project! and the canoe looks challenging too. What's harder (not funner) making the video or the canoe ?
@NomadicWoodsman
@NomadicWoodsman 4 жыл бұрын
Both are hard haha depends on the shots and which steps etc. It is alot easier to concentrate on building and faster too without filming. What is fun and rewarding with the videos is reading all the comments :)

@@NomadicWoodsman I think it's a good investment in your future. These skills will be in great demand in the future. There are a lot of anthropolagist that know how it was done. Some try for experiments etc. , But people who have actually done it will be the best teachers. Keep learning my friend and keep filming.
