Your initial thoughts and enthusiasm for Pieces of a Woman was one of the reasons I was so excited for it...boy, you weren’t kidding. It was incredibly powerful, devastating and expertly performed. I’ll be rooting for Kirby all awards season. Beautiful film!
@ImpressionBlend4 жыл бұрын
Well hello! Fancy seeing you here))) I thought McDormand had another Best Actress Oscar in the bag, but after seeing this I think Kirby is going to sweep everything she's nominated for. I'm still recovering from this film, to be honest. Will you be doing a full video review?
@martinpalmers90614 жыл бұрын
Impression Blend That was exactly my reaction. Did you see Ammonite? I was so disappointed by it. I don’t think Winslet is going to win the Oscar. Tbh, its a race between Kirby and Mcdormand. For me, I loved Anotner Round the most. I hope it wins best foreign feature.
@FilmSpeak4 жыл бұрын
Impression Blend Yes! I will. Have the whole thing written out and plan on recording it in the next week or so. It’s kinda crazy how it hasn’t left my mind either. I hadn’t really thought about the structure of it until you mentioned of it, but it’s incredibly ambitious & effective. Seeing Nomadland this week, but I’ll be shocked if I’m still not team Kirby afterwards haha. Though McDormand seems like the academy pick...

"Frances McDormand Writes a Shopping List: The Movie" would be an excellent sequel to "Rooney Mara Eats a Pie: The Movie". I would be all over it! :D Thank you, Marianna, for the reviews. Both movies seem really interesting. "Nomadland" comes to Polish cinemas January 29, so I'll watch it for sure! There's no release date for "Pieces of a Woman" yet, but I have a gut feeling we'll be getting it sometime soon :)

This is perfect timing , I was just reading up on Nomadland after never hearing about it before. But it caught my curiosity since Frances Mcdormand is my second favorite actress. The #1 title goes to Amy Adams, however they both have that thing in common where I’ll watch them in pretty much anything .So with that being said you can go ahead and count me in ! 👍😆

You really know how to find those uplifting films for an anxiety-laden 2020 Mariana! Just kidding, both sound very interesting and if you rate them 9/10 then I know they’ll be worth the watch. I like quirky road movies quite a bit, and what a coincidence I think Frances McDormand is one of the greatest actresses in the business, so yeah: Will definitely be seeing Nomadland. As for Pieces of a Woman, it sounds like a great idea from a filmmaking standpoint to put the 30-minute SCENE right up front and then show ripples afterward - like how we experience memories of nightmares or traumatic events. PTSD is experienced is that sort of fractured way, I’ve found. I’ll have to wait until I feel strong enough to take it on but I trust your instinct. Also good film with a strong central performance can’t be harmful to watch, right? That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. борщ! 😉
@ImpressionBlend4 жыл бұрын
It's one of my special talents - nothing like a solid, depressing film in 2020 to match our moods eh? )) With "Pieces of a Woman" I would definitely suggest knowing what you're getting into and being mentally prepared. But when you're ready - you're in for an out-of-this-world performance from Kirby.

Thank you for your thoughts! Unfortunately I had a very different reaction to Pieces of a Woman. I agree that Kirby is great but the entire presentation of the film felt overly melodramatic, almost to the point of comedy. I like your take that the narrative structure reflects the fractured nature of the main character's existence after a traumatic event, and that does make me reevaluate the film in more positive terms, but I can't get by just how corny so many of the scenes after the childbirth one take were.
@Liv_and_the_babes3 жыл бұрын
Corny? They lost their child. I thought it was very on point with how TWO completely opposite people in a relationship would grieve and react to that situation and the toll it can put on a Relationship and the individuals involved .
