ACHTUNG: DO NOT buy from Southern Records NMN reissues. I just learned today after posting my video that they are not paying the band their fair share!! Alternative Tentacles is going to reissue the back catalogue and as per what I have read that is all legit! Support the bands! I myself have bought two of the reissues from Southern Records and now I'm feeling a bit sad...Thanks for watching the video.

@DrOktober
@DrOktober Жыл бұрын
@@peteormond3565 No timeline has been issued. I just watched a very recent interview with John Wright (about his Dead Bob project) and in that they touched the subject and he said that even though the original master tapes are still with Southern Records (so I understood) and they can't get to them, they have to use CD as a master source for the reissues. From that interview I understood that it's still going to happen, eventually. Dad/Revenge 7" was reissued last year. So that's a start! Cheers

Excellent list, brother! The first punk show I attended in 1984 had Nomeansno opening for DOA. I was enchanted and followed them for years. Saw them a couple dozen times between 84 and 90, and a few times after. Such an amazing live band! You’re probably already aware of this, but the KZbin channel The Show Must Go Wrong is very actively uploading tons of live Nomeansno material even as we speak.

Dude, I'm so glad you picked Wrong for #1. I think I heard this record for the first time in 92...perhaps 93? I was so completely flabbergasted...shocked...confused...in love with it.... It really redefined punk for me. To this day it's one of the most important albums in my collection. I remember when it was out of print and one had to find a used cd on ebay just to hear it. Absolutely phenomenal record.

Thanks for making this video. They are such an incredible band but I worry they will be forgotten since they no longer play anymore and never got the full recognition they deserved. I saw them for the first time in 1989 during the tour for Wrong. Amazing show. I do have 4 of their records on vinyl. I do hope Alternative Tentacles re-releases everything. I'm a little surprised they are returning to AT since they left the label in the early 2000s. But if they do I will definitely be buying more. Let's keep their legacy going!

Thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate it a lot. I read this information about the reissues from NMN facebook page so it's safe to say it's legit info. Dates are unknown. I wish I had been aware of the band during Andy Kerr era and seen them live then but I love Tom Holliston era as much too :) Luckily I have seen them live! By the way, there will be a book about NMN sometime in 2022 if all goes well. Look up the FB group Nomeansno: We're So Wright, we're Wrong... You can keep yourself updated on the book project and connect with other fans :) IF you are in FB that is... Cheers and thanks again buddy

I've only seen them one time, it was in Seattle in 1990 and they blew me away. I first heard of them from a girl who worked at my favorite record store. Because of the music I had been buying she told me I would love NoMeansNo. So I bought Small Parts Isolated and Destroyed and went back to my pad, put the CD in and was blown away so I listened to that over and over again. I think Wrong would have been my next CD purchase. Then I got Sex Mad and of course when 0 + 2 = 1 came out I bought it immediately. Theresa, give me that knife!

The American AT release of Sex Mad didn't have No Fucking or Hunt The She Beast. There was Love Thang instead, and Revenge was the final track. The insert has the Dad 7" artwork on one side with "Dear Old Dad" across the top instead, and the lyric side looks like the same artwork as yours but doesn't have No Fucking, which looks like it was just squeezed in after with not much effort made to match the style. FYI, Mama was recorded in a studio, it was their first untitled release, later dubbed "Betrayal Fear Anger Hatred", that was recorded at home.

My top 5 would be: 1. Mr Happy 2. 0+2=1 3. Gross Misconduct (yes, a Hanson Bros record, but it's a fucking masterpiece) 4. Wrong 5. Worldhood I never warmed up to the early stuff too much. Live they were great songs, but studio they just lacked a bit for me. One is a great album, and those songs really killed live, but I don't listen to it much anymore.

Hey there! Thanks for watching and commenting💪 I too saw NMN in the Tom era only. Those were the best live shows ever. Thanks also for sharing your top 5! Gross Misconduct IS a masterpiece agree 100%. I love Sudden Death and My Game almost as much! Worldhood is also one of those albums I keep revisiting on regular basis. Andy Kerr era is still the top for me. These lists surely keep changing over time hahah! Cheers!

Mika, great video! Had to wait until I really had the time to watch and enjoy… You know I only ever owned one album, Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie on CD in. Not sure I ever really listened to it because by the end of 1998 ALL my CDs were stolen. Then I simply never went back to it and actually took a decade off of punk completely. I always say that I love punk rock, but admit one of the worst part of punk rock are the fans… a lot of punk fans have a very fine, narrow line between what “is punk” and what “isn’t punk.” To me its more about the attitude and approach than any music theory or structure. But what do I know…. I'm gonna go and stream some NOMEANSNO, see where that puts me, I am feeling inspired. Thanks Dr.!

Thanks you for posting this video. My own personal favourite album by NMN is actually Live and Cuddly. I realise you left it out as you are reviewing studio albums. I saw the (roughly) Live and Cuddly set live myself (not the actual recorded performance), in Newcastle, UK. When Andy Kerr was still in the group. I'm in a band myself, but came away knowing that i would never be, or see, as good a live band as NMN ever again. I'm a guitarist. All guitarist's know they will never be as good a Hendrix, nor will there ever be another Hendrix. NMN was my Hendrix for a Live Band. There will never be a better live band for me. I saw them in my favourite line-up too. I was lucky.
@DrOktober
@DrOktober Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Much appreciated. Live and Cuddly rips. Most of the songs on it are better versions than the ones on the albums. That's awesome you got to see them in their prime. NMN was and is hands down the best live band I've ever witnessed on stage. I have this recollection that I say in the video I saw them eight times live, but in actuality I saw them six times. I will make soon a video where I show my entire NMN/Hanson Brothers collection. I have few pieces missing though. Cheers and have a great weekend! Be Strong Be Wrong

@@DrOktober good to know someone else thinks they are the best live band they ever saw. I saw Rage Against The Machine at Glastonbury, a few years later. They were awesome, as everyone knows. But I didn't get that pure primal energy inside me that I felt when i saw NMN, who were just on a totally different level for me personally. I'm not knocking RATM, as it is down to how it affects a person individually of course. For some people, RATM will release that magic within them. That's the beauty of music. Great channel by the way. It's honest. And real. And seemingly un-egotistical. I like that

Still ok though But then they returned to grittier form in the 90's and have been awesome ever since Their initial 90's album is astonishing Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions

I gotta say, everyone who has WRONG as their #1 is WRONG... a great album, to be sure, but they outdid it time after time: 0+2=1, MR. HAPPY & WORLDHOOD might even be their peak years... DANCE was great, but off a bit sonically; nice to see ONE get some love here, it's usually underrated (not as much as AUSFAHRT, though). WRONG is definitely punk......it doesn't sound 89 to me but almost late 90's. I'm not an expert. Big fan of DeVo especially early DeVo, live Smart Patrol/ Mr. DNA the raw energy. I've never seen anything like NMN as far as absolute crazy energy. Wow. Thanks Canada. Scaterd Few ' Sin Disease ' is one of my favorite punk records. Forgive me.

@@DrOktober I thanked Canada. I thank you for a very entertaining review. So cool. The first time I heard ( sorry to say it wasn't that long ago ) it was ' It's catching up ' and the next song ' The tower ' I was shaking my head in disbelief. NMN you kill me.

Only one disagreement really and that is I think 0+2 = 1 deserves to be higher. The weight of the lyrics alone and then the off the wall structure (often referred to as math rock as you say more recently) at its time was much more innovative than it seems now in retrospect. Which means really that I have to choose an album to sacrifice its place for, and somewhat regrettably I’d have to switch it with Small Parts. I admit that’s only because I’m weighting the innovation of song structure stronger that OP, so being that Small Parts is pretty straight forward post hardcore, lots of just straight forward structures and chords, great as they are, sinks somewhat in comparison in my mind. But I’m admittedly prejudiced as I said.

Excellent comment. I have to say that my current NMN album ranking list is slightly different than what it was 3 years ago when I made the video. 0+2=1 was my second NMN album I heard and somehow the complexity of it threw me off a bit. It took me a few years to get really into that record. Funny how these things go sometimes.

@@njandrews4105 Forgot to say that when I lived still in Finland, I knew a guy who was from Victoria. He moved to Finland from Canada and decided to stay. There are lot of similarities with the two countries. He had never heard of NMN but I guess Victoria is not that small a place hahah.
