The more I listen the more I love this. I am a lifetime Catholic but always have also been open and loving my Evangelical family. We must not be separated any more! The Chosen does not combine Catholic doctrines with true biblical faith. I'm not sure where you get that. If anything, Jesus' scathing criticisms of the religious leadership's legalism and works-based salvation could apply to the papal system of Catholicism.

@@kwpp7 The Catholic Church has never taught a works-based salvation, we have never believed that we can somehow effect our salvation through human means, this is called pelagianism which was condemned as a heresy almost a millennium before Martin Luther lived. I think you are creating a, frankly insulting, false-dichotomy between 'Catholic doctrines' and 'true biblical' faith. The Council of Trent nor the Catechism of the Catholic Church does not use the word 'works' nor anything related to it in teaching about salvation. Rather it is far more accurate to say that Catholics believe that we are saved by God's grace and initially justified by our faith in God (whereby we enter into the community of the faithful), but that justification is an on-going process of sanctification that requires us to respond with love-thus, participating in the life and love of God and making us more like Him (sic holy). Through the process of sanctification there is not a hope but a profound expectation that our very beings as being changed and internally purified through our cooperation with the grace of God via our growth in the theological virtues; Faith, Hope, and Charity (or Love). For Catholics, our actions matter but not because they achieve our salvation separate from God or because they simply reveal a salvation already received (as in traditional Lutheranism) but because they integrate, form, and grow what God instills in us. The scathing criticisms that both John the Baptist and Christ apply to the religious leadership's legalism and incorrect interpretation of Scripture could indeed apply to some Catholics, but not to the Church as whole as Christ does not condemn religion as a whole as false but rather an unhealthy sort created by poor shepards in ancient Israel. Nor does Christ completely abolish God's expectations that we follow His law. Christ has established a new covenant with us, the perfect and everlasting covenant which promises eternal salvation. Christ has broken down the dividing wall of emnity and so now our worship isn't merely mirroring the heavenly liturgy like Jewish worship in the temple; our worship directly participates with the worship in heaven. The Divine Liturgies (Roman Catholicism calls it the Mass) on earth take place in heaven through the grace of God. The Chosen's portrayal of Jesus does not conflict with any Catholic idea or notion; we think of Jesus in much the same way because we are Christian and this is the picture painted by Sacred Scripture (which was complied and canonized by the authority of the Catholic Church-the same Canon that Luther and his followers removed books they disagreed with from). The actor who plays Jesus is Catholic btw.

When you were talking about the conversation between Nicodemus and his wife about the hard road he helps us through or either calls us too, it thought of a verse where the Apostle Paul prayed three times for his trouble to leave him and the verse reads -But He said to me “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. Can I just say that I’ve known about worshipping from our heart in spirit and truth. I’ve been called out of churches for a while now. I get my fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ online, I don’t need no stinking building! GOD IS EVERYWHERE!! I pray everybody comes to that realization that they don’t need to be in a church building to worship and praise the Lord!! We can have small gatherings in our homes if we want to, WE ARE THE CHURCH!

Loved the interview with Dallas. He is so down to earth and has a beautiful heart as do you. A thought came to me as I have been watching you react to this series. 'He's going to be part of The Chosen. He's going to be in it.' And then Dallas said you would fit right in !! So cool!! Thank you for asking who Dallas really is at the core. I have watched him many times as he has spoken directly to us, the viewers of The Chosen. He is clearly a sincere, honest, down to earth man with a big heart for God whose greatest desire is that his will and God's lines up. This seems to be echoed in the cast, it translates clearly in the film series and is beautiful to watch. The Holy Spirit seems to embrace Jonathan as He is portraying Jesus. I have been blessed to have had encounters with Jesus where he has presented himself to me and to me, he looks exactly like Jonathan does as he plays Jesus. Such a powerful series. The interview portion is so good. The brief segment where Dallas describes what God communicated to his heart is very accurate in my life. I would actually get these glimpses in private moments of prayer where I would almost imagine it was Jesus directly answering me or showing me what I need to do, whether it be through reading scripture or just sitting quietly while I pray. I freaked out when I saw Jesus on The Chosen, because the actor looks so similar to the picture of Jesus I see when I'm praying.

From my own experiences in life (I’m 58), I have always taken the most difficult tasks upon myself. Although in some instances I chose it that way, but in most other tasks, it just ended up that way. I do believe that the harder the work, the bigger the payoffs. Nothing meaningful in life has ever been achieved without sacrifice.

38:35- I appreciate the show especially giving Peter's wife a name and showing her role in this too. Small role, but still important we may not know what her actual name was, but doesn't make her irrelevant. 40:08- And yes that is in written in the Bible. Peter's mother in law got up instantly and began to wait on Jesus as if she was never ill. 44:08- Remember Jesus can read our thoughts and see in our hearts. So he knew Nicodemus was near and wanted to go, but afraid to let his life go. 1:00:53- Notice how that's the faith that little Abigail showed. She may be a child, but that's how our faith should be.

I am 73 years old and having listen to many pastors in my life I can guarantee Jack Hibbs is one of the best to learn from as he relates the Bible to our lives today. 1:41:20 As a Catholic and future religious educator, I can tell you that the Catholic Church is putting in a great deal of effort to encourage that more personal relationship with Jesus. There is much that we can learn from our Protestant brothers and sisters on how to do this, just as Protestants can learn from Catholics about how routine and ceremony can help with stability during "low" times in an individual's faith journey and help connect back to our collective Jewish heritage (much of Catholic ceremony stems from ancient Jewish practices, some of which modern Jews no longer practice because of this)
