@@texanboiii562 PT is Penetrant Testing. Used to find surface defect in materials. The reason an engineer wouldn't be doing it is because they wouldn't be qualified to do it in the first place. Even if they were, their job is to be an engineer, not a nondestructive technician. That'd be equivalent to an airline pilot doing maintenance on the planes they fly. Just doesn't work that way.

Would you rather hire someone that's really good at math or a engineer... engineer is a good title to have when you want to charge more money to a customer...

If you're paying for a college degree to become a NDT than you're wasting your money. A certification process is all it takes to become a NDT.
