Non Euclidian Minecraft (Uncut)

This is a rudimentary recreation of Minecraft with a flavor of Non-Euclidian geometry. The whole environment of cubes creates a procedurally generated sphere which the player can traverse, destroy and build upon as they wish. At the center of the planet, you'll find a purplish colored brick that represents the gravitational core of the planet.

So the base is a "sphere" made out of voxels, but you make sure the voxels are aligned with the surface of an actual sphere. So if you didn't modify the vertexes of the individual voxels, it would look like a blocky sphere. What kind of algorithm did you use to realign the voxels? What do you think about the cube "inflation" or the faking of a sphere by a torus method

Thank you, I’m glad you like it! Ahhh yes! Huge respect for Hyperbolica! That game along with superliminal are part of what kicked of my initial curiosity and exploration into non Euclidean geometry.

Wait, what shape is the planet? It's kinda hard to make a planet with a grid on it, so I was assuming it was hyperbolic or something that makes it possible.

Yeah you nailed it. It’s a procedurally generated sphere created with cubes. There’s some slight warping to make it all fit together but it’s hardly noticeable when playing due to the large scale of the sphere.

Yeah, it looks really cool! Kinda reminds me of the spherical shader pack used in Minecraft, but here it looks like an actual planet rather than a shader curving whatever platform you’re on. I saw a video like this a while back but the world worked more like a donut to fit better geometrically (you can fit a grid onto a donut-shape).

@@builder1013 Yeah exactly! That’s kinda the look I was trying to replicate but from scratch, procedurally in Unity. I deployed it to PC for easy testing but it could easily be ported to other platforms. I’ll put up a build of the mini game here once I get back to my laptop, so y’all can try it out. For-warning though, it’s got some bugs I’m still ironing out.

Perhaps Non Euclidian isn't the best term for it, but the environment is a procedurally generated sphere made of cubes, so I figured that would qualify as Non Euclidian geometry. I suppose I should've called it Non-Euclidian Geometry Minecraft, but that seemed like an obtuse title.
