I put Jesus and John Wayne in everyone’s hands when I can. It explains so much about their heinous long game and motivations. I have even bought people copies when they say how can they put aside this and that and vote for him. This book explains how they don’t put it aside - it is because of this and that - and it is stunning! Puts things in perspective and allows us to reframe our expectations of the motivations of evangelicals. Helps to understand how they go against what we think they believe. Then we can have proper expectations. This will make sense when you read it and I am so tired since the election. I know I am probably not expressing myself properly. I am so tired. Will need to rally soon. For now, I rot and wallow.

I grew up in the evangelical church and it's taken me many, many years to deconstruct. Honestly, I still have more healing to do. One of the first things that changed for me when I left the church was my political leaning, because instead of being preached at about what "christian values" were, I had time to truly examine what I believed.

Ugh, I'm with you. I've felt down since the elections. I left christianity a year ago so I was hopeful about Harris winning, her last speech made me cry. I'll be listening to audio books while I learn to knit. I will be borrowing some of the books you mentioned. We will get through this.

Jesus and John Wayne is incredible because it helps you see right through everything that evangelical fundamentalists do to manipulate politics through religion. The Anthropocene Reviewed will balance it out to help restore *some* faith in humanity.

The Anthropocene Reviewed is so tender and hopeful. There are definitely some rage inducing bits since he wrote it during COVID, so some of that dread is woven throughout the essays. Jesus and John Wayne is incredible, I think it should be required reading for all Americans.

Say Nothing is such a great book. Jesus and John Wayne… Oof. I’m unfamiliar with that one, but it sounds like another important book I can’t bring myself to read right now: Wild Faith: How the Christian Right Is Taking Over America by Talia Lavin. I’m working on The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates at the moment. Thick or The Anthropocene Reviewed sounds like a good choice for my TBR.

While i may not participate in NFN (depends on my mood), here are some of my favorite non-fiction books: Quackery by Lydia Kang (weird and sometimes bad take on medicine in history), Queer Ducks by Eliot Schrefer (queerness in nature ❤), Wild Swans by Jung Chang (generational narrativeof three women's experiencesin 20th century China), White Trash by Nancy Isenberg (using class and whiteness to influence politics), and Still Life with Bones by Alexa Hagerty (this is a forensic anthropologist's work in recovering bodies from genocide)

Jesus and John Wayne is excellent but yeah, might need to wait a little. I am in the middle of Attack From Within by Barbara McQuade which i started before the election and don't know if i can finish it rn. But it's good. Say Nothing is also excellent though it's been a while since I read it. I visited Belfast in 2001 and there was a lack of books to read back then but I've been interested ever since.

I recommend also reading the audio for Anthropocene Reviewed if you can get it, as there are 1 or 2 essays that are unique between the printed and the audio. I remember one of the audio ones in particular made me glad I went back to listen after reading physically

I do love to add some non-fiction in the mix, usually about 25% of my books. One non-fiction book I've read this year is "Coming of Age in Mississippi" by Anne Moody. I would highly suggest it if you haven't read it. The book about Northern Ireland really interests me. I've just recently found your channel. Thank you! I do have some non-fiction books waiting for me on Audible. I'll choose a couple for my next listens!

Say Nothing is one of the best books I've read this year; very informative but reads like a thriller. Audiobook is the way to go with this one. Disney/FX have made a series based on it that looks good too ... If you need another fascinating non-fiction audiobook, try The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu (and Their Race to Save the World's Most Precious Manuscripts) by Joshua Hammer

I had no idea about NFN but I've been binging NF recently anyways so that works out for me 😂 As a twin I've been looking more into twin history/culture and have really enjoyed the books How To Be Multiple by Helena de Bres, as well as Twinkind by William Viney. The first goes more into her personal psychology and experience being a twin, overlapped with her philosophy experience as a professor to apply it to the world at large. Twinkind is more the history of twins throughout culture and science, considering the zeitgeist twins take up for better and worse. Idk if non twins will get the same experience out of them but I've really like them so far!

Just finished *We Will Be Jaguars* by Nemonte Nenquimo which is a memoir by one of the Indigenous women of the Waorani tribe in the Amazon who spearheaded an activist effort to reclaim and protect land stolen from them. They won a landmark court case in Ecuador several years ago. 5 stars. Hard to read in places because of what corporations and white people (and Evangelicals, boo hiss) are doing to the people and the land, but so very well written. (She dictated the book to her husband, who is a white man from California, in Spanish and he translated it from there into English and compared to other translated works, I really didn't feel like he intruded too much into her words as the translator or editor.) Yeah, that "well, it's now after the election" is just....sigh. I should really get *Refusing Compulsory Sexuality* on my TBR
