Yeah, the guys in Metallica had a purple period for a bit. I forget who started it (my money is on either Rob or Kirk) but each guy in the band thought the glittery purple color was cool and they each slowly got instruments to match. Which is a bit crazy because custom made guitars take time to be made - but to be fair ESP guitars likely put a priority on requests from James and Kirk.

The guitar James is playing is an explorer shape built by Ken Lawrence and prices can range from $4500 to $24,000 USD. That particular one is different than the one he’s had since the late 90’s but the headstock of KL guitars is pretty distinctive. The Purple ESP signature guitar Kirk is playing had a limited custom shop run along with an equally limited Red color. First used listing for the purple one I found on Reverb had an asking price of more than $10,000. Of course if it were Kirk’s own guitar being sold it would go for much more. There have also been several releases of a black one with the same Ouiji board design that is more common but Kirk’s signature guitars built in the ESP custom shop in Japan regularly have a price of at least $5,000 in today’s market and have come in plenty of different designs. So do James’ current models of ESP guitars for that matter. The Ouiji board designs fetch the most money because they are so rare because it required a licensing agreement with Hasbro since they own the IP of the board. The most rare are the ones were the spelling was incorrect that were sold before they received a ‘cease and desist’ letter from Hasbro back in the 90’s. However you can also get far more inexpensive LTD versions that are currently at a retail price of $1,800. I have a newer V model of LTD based on Kirk’s ESP USA custom shop guitars that Guitar Center was blowing out at half the price in stores in the U.S. though I got mine through a private trade. Hope this awnsered your questions about how expensive those guitars are.

I was trying to find information on Jame’s ken lawrence guitar and came across a comment where someone actually contacted the guy who builds those guitars for James. According to that guy he said a guitar similar to James would be around $7,000. I can’t confirm that but I wouldn’t be surprised. It may cost even more, who knows.

I would suggest reacting to ''Metallica: Fade to Black (Lincoln, NE - September 6, 2018)''. One of their most popular songs from Ride The Lightning (Second Album). They play it at every show still to this day. It's a song about suicide and mental health. James wrote the lyrics after one day while they we're on tour, their equipment got stolen, including a Marshall amplifier his mother who passed away, a bit before, helped him pay.
