The reason it took this long is because he literally died. Heartbeat was gone until his power said "no bruh, we're walking to the finish line together... or rather screw around until the finish line"

So typically a "zoan" type devil fruit gives you 3 forms. The base form of whoever ate it, a fully transformed beast/animal/etc. Form and a hybrid form. Luffys fruit is a mythical type. There are some mythical zoans already known like Marcos pheonix fruit or sengokus human human fruit model: Buddha but luffys is special where the true transformation only seems to show itself when awakened (awakening is when a devil fruit user catches up to the fruits full potential) and everything he did before (gear 2-4) was him basically brute forcing his fruits potential with his imagination and determination to get stronger

his opinion may show he’s confused which is expected. even us the caught up fans were confused on the theme of the fight (Looney Sht) but the main purpose of the transformation was fulfilled the guy laughed he smiled he got entertained . JoyBoy don’t miss. U can be the greatest saddest hater but watching this you will smile. One Piece = Joy not Cool

Well One Piece was never just about battles and defeating the antagonist that is the main point of many shonen stories. It is about the lore of history and the fulfillment of prophecy against tyranny. More than how powerful Gear 5 may be is that the drums of liberation are beating once more, and the reappearance of the one who was Joyboy signals the revelation of the void era and the possible end of the current domination. Luffy was always a goofball and a child at heart and that represents the free-spirit of humanity against the constrictions of tyranny. I think it was absolutely brilliant of Oda to make Gear 5 that goofy to represent that particular point about Luffy. This isn't about "look how cool he looks" but more about "look how free one can be". So I agree with you completely that by bringing out the joy of the battle, the objective of the lore is getting filled. I am loving this battle so much.

100% i think he understood it more than most ppl did. he laughed and thats what was supposed to happen luffy can be epic at times but most of the time and even during some fights he just a goofy dude having fun he doesnt like being super serious and would rather have a great time and laugh. agreed on all points great summary my dude. if he watches more OP he will get it but we cant expect a non watcher to really understand the epicness if thats a word, of this transformation without the hundreds of chapters and build up. this is when we found out who joyboy was and is a mystery they hinted at for a long time.
