1. If you go a mage build, you might want to avoid bothering with all basic and some mid-tier frost and lightning spells. Frost slows enemies and reduces their stamina (so they can't melee attack you as much or do power moves) and lightning reduces their magicka (so they cast less spells). But what the game doesn't tell you is that NPCs regenerate both stamina and magicka *extremely* quickly, faster than your spells and any related magic staves can drain them. It's honestly really cheatsy because you expect these things to work as advertised and they just don't... on NPCs. They most definitely still work on you as the player. High tier frost and lightning spells are very good in terms of damage and stuns, however. 2. Highly recommend installing some mods just for QOL, nothing for content or cheats. Mods that make the game look prettier, not just in terms of resolution and dynamic lighting and whatever but things that make the game feel more alive. Since it was made such a long time ago, there isn't actually much in the world. Years ago I installed a mod series that prettifies all the cities, giving them nicer looking buildings and plants and barrels and whatnot, mods like that. Otherwise you might be kinda disappointed by how barren, dull, and flat it looks in comparison to more modern games. Skyrim is known for having color palettes that all kind of blend together (gray city, gray ground, gray walls, etc.) Also some examples of more functional mods: "Immersive Torch" because dungeons are dark af and the vanilla torch is terrible; "Thieves Guild Ladder" because without it, EVERY time you want to get to the thieves guild you are going on the same long boring trip either through a sewer or into the very back of town and then through TWO loading screens; and "Resurrection" because, even if you don't like cheating, sometimes some actual bs happens that kills your follower. The game is still very buggy, it is not all that rare for someone to fall through the floor and die, or get rocketed up into the air and perish on impact, or step on an object and the physics engine throws a fit, deals a million damage to them, and yeets their corpse across the room. I guess that would make for some entertaining roleplay. Oh no, Lydia stubbed her toe on a cooking pot and got sent to the shadow realm! 3. Without mentioning the build name to avoid influencing your decision, there is a specific build that is infamously OP. Many people naturally gravitate towards it due to how the 2 skill trees involved make it so obviously better than all other builds in terms of pure damage. If you want to kill something so hard it goes to double hell, you can google the most OP Skyrim build and try it yourself. Otherwise I would recommend not using this build as it can cheapen many more challenging or lore-involved battles. Skyrim's combat mechanics are not complex in even the loosest definition of the word, just hit the thing faster and more often than it hits you (or hit it before it knows you're there), so once you get used to fighting, using this build might feel less cheap if it gets you through difficult quests faster. In certain quests, it's even the best and arguably intended way to play. 4. Remember to use the favorites menu! It's so helpful!!! You can add stuff in your inventory to favorites (weapons, potions, arrows, food, spells, scrolls, clothes/armor/rings/circlets, etc) and then that functions as a smaller inventory list so you don't have to go searching for the one thing you use all the time. Plus when you open the favorites menu (Q button) and have whatever item highlighted, pressing a number key assigns that item to the number so you can quick swap. Pausing in the midst of battle to spend 2 minutes looking for your cheese wheels in between all the random food bits you've picked up because you're low on health and need the power of lactose is rather disruptive to the vibe. 5. If you side with the Thalmor, you are dead to me. Kidding.... maybe.

Looking up towards the sky and seeing a huge dragon above you, or looking towards a giant mountain and being able to feel the scale and distance, or being in a dungeon and feeling the panic as an enemy runs towards you, heck, even just being able to physically lower your head to take a closer look at something on the ground, it's just a next level experience in an already amazing game. The difference between normal mortals and the Dragonborn is the ability to learn Shouts. Shouts are the language of the Dragons themselves, but the Dovakhiin (the Dragonborn in the Dragon tongue) can learn these shouts. Each shout has three words, each word making it more powerful. The Fus Ro Dah you hear is the "Unrelenting Force" shout. But they have many others, like Slow Time, or Whirlwind Sprint. One of the main objectives of the primary questline is to learn the Dragonrend shout...which is the only shout that humans discovered far back in time. It has the power to knock a Dragon out of the sky so you can force them to fight on the ground...not that that makes it much easier. There are other characters who know some shouts, but only the Dragonborn can learn them all.

23:50 Shouts or ‘thuum’ are a kind of magic in which one’s energy is focused by ‘words of power’ into devastating effects and defences. Dragon’s speak these words intrinsically. Humans can be taught the thuum slowly with long training. Dragonborn has the gift of instant understanding by birthright. Skyrim’s natives, the Nords, pantheon revolves around the sky, wind and breath. Thus shouting with thuum is an important idea for them. You can play Skyrim and most of its faction questlines without shouts, but the main quest is focused upon the use of thuum.

one of the best things about Skyrim (for me) is that you can do any quests you want at any time, you don't really even have to do the main storyline if you don't want to. I have played Skyrim almost every day since it released. The feel of exploration is wonderful. There is quests everywhere in the game. The DLCs are great. Your character is the dragonborne, there is many different shouts and each one does something different. When you explore a dungeon, cave, ruins, ect. Check every nook and cranny. The devs put all kinds of stuff everywhere for you to find. You can be a rogue, mage, warrior, enchanter, alchemist, and the list goes on and on. But any of my Dragonbornes can do it all. The game is so massive, and has so much your character can do that it can keep you entertained endlessly. If you pick up the books in the game and actually read them you will learn alot of the lore of the game. Some of the books are in Oblivion and Skyrim. It's a beautiful world to discover. Try it and I assure you, you will enjoy this game.
@WalterWild-uu1td7 ай бұрын
The DLC's can be entered into whenever you like. One is mostly environmental, but the other two are deep and intense. Hearthfire adds some content but essentially allows you to purchase land and build up to three personal homes. The main game allows you to obtain dwellings in most of the major cities and in some of the faction headquarters. Hearthfire also allows you to adopt up to two children if you wish. The Dawnguard DLC adds a deep vampire based questline where you choose to join the Dawnguard, a vampire hunting faction or the Vampire side, where you become a vampire. The Dragonborn DLC lets you leave the primary Skyrim area and journey to Solstheim, an island northeast of the main continent which has strong ties to the earlier Morrowind game. It takes you back to a prior Dragonborn (your character is not the first or the only Dragonborn.) only in the Dragonborn DLC you, as the current Dragonborn, are opposed by the resurrected Dragonborn of an earlier era...who has gone to the Darkside as it were. You can go into Dragonborn or Dawnguard when you wish to do so, but most players tend to finish the primary game first. Almost everyone I know who plays the game tends to join the Companions faction first, a mercenary faction (with Werewolves!) that is probably the best way to level up melee and ranged combat. It's a good combat learning experience.

2:20 Yes, all the games take place in the same timeline and they have **mostly** been released in timeline order (iirc Morrowind is set 6 years before Oblivion, Skyrim is set 200 years after Oblivion, an exception is Elder Scrolls Online which is set long before all 3 of the "modern/3D" games), but no, you don't need to know the story of the previous games. Sometimes there's recurring characters, but they're never super important to the main story, they're more just there to give a sense of world continuity and to give a nod to fans of the older games. The 3 modern/3D games (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim) each take place on a different country of a larger continent called Tamriel, which is a part of the planet Nirn in the realm of Mundus. Morrowind takes place on Vvardenfell, a volcanic island off the mainland of morrowind. Oblivion takes place in Cyrodiil, the most central region of Tamriel and the seat of the imperial empire, and Skyrim is set in the region of (you probably guessed it) Skyrim, the northernmost region of Tamriel.

Oh trust me, the elder scrolls is filled with racism, in morrowind youll get slurs thrown at you relentlessly, the dark elves in windhelm, a major city in skyrim, live in a slum and a nord guy enjoys beating them up, argonians, the lizard people, arent allowed in that city at all. Khajit arent allowed in whiterun because of their reputation as thieves etc. The shouts are what dragons get their power from, when a dragon is breathing fire, its actually shouting, you can learn different shouts that let you do dragon things like breathe fire. That is because youre essentially a dragon in a human body
@thehowlinggamer57843 ай бұрын
think of shouts like dust from RWBY or the materia from Final Fantasy. FuS Roh Dah is a force push, there's one that makes you dash faster, one for forcing dragons to land, one that freezes opponents, so it becomes kind of important to find as many shouts as you can and learn what they do to fit your play style.

It's very very immersive and addictive. I've played over 5500 hours since I got it. Around practically every corner there's another quest or storyline. Some intersect. You have the main storyline where you are trying to take down the Big Bad Dragon Alduin. Then there is the Companions (Fighters Guild), the College of Winterhold (Mages), Thieves Guild (Rogues), Dark Brotherhood (Assassins) and either the Empire or the Stormcloaks, the two contending factions in the Civil War. You also have questlines to acquire powers and items from the Daedra, the mostly bad "gods" or questlines related to the Aedra...the good "gods." And you can just go fishing or hunting. You have a lot of freedom. You're going to be spending a lot of time in caves, by the way. And there have been three DLC's. One is Heartfire which is just immersion...you get to build your own home and adopt children. Then there's Dawnguard...where you join the anti Vampire Dawnguard...or you join the Vampires. The last was Dragonborn...where you go to another island very much based on Morrowind and fight a resurrected version of an earlier Dragonborn who went evil on everyone.

You don't NEED to know the other games necessarily, but they do take place in the same continuity, and there's a lot of lore in the world that references their major events. Nirn is a fascinating place.

when I first saw the dragon bridge, and its architecture was breathtaking for me, although it was a long time ago, but I still remember that specific detail in the game, which says as much about a game that leaves a special mark in a player's memory.

Before I watch, the short answer I give everyone is how good the game is; The base game and DLC on their own, no. Modded, easily in my top 5. I'll edit this after I watch the video. Edit: Alright, after watching the video, here's some personal views and some community views on some of the stuff you were talking about. 1. These games can be fun on their own, but BGS (Bethesda Game Studio) games are notorious for being buggy and having issues. With that in mind, you REALLY need mods even at a base level to fix the bugs in them. 2. Skyrim does address racism, though it's mostly on a surface level, but I will give it credit on the fact that a good portion of both sides are kinda racist in general. 3. As for the fallout games, genuinely, you should try out Fallout New Vegas, it uses a modified version of the Fallout 3 engine, but its more of an RPG experience, there are also a lot of plot elements that Skyrim obviously took from it. 4. On the subject of modding, any game using any of the iterations of their engine are great for modding. 5. Just my opinion, the last 3 titles from Bethesda in this regard (Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Starfield) are awful, they keep on "simplifying" RPG elements like skills and abilities to reach a wider audience, which they succeed at, but I think it comes at the cost of both play time, and interest in the games.

There are some skills worth getting regardless of type character you like to play as for example armor or enchanting skills together to make armor stronger or have magic/physical buffs are always useful, reducing magic cost for spells and added to 4 armor pieces used correctly can result in zero casting costs so you cast without running out of magic as long as you wear that set

The Dragonborn or 'Dovahkiin' is a Mortal born with the soul of a dragon. It's why they can 'Shout' like they do. For dragons, shouting comes as easy as breathing, but Mortals must usually study for decades to be able to do it.

Suffice to say at some point you’re going to go “ohh there’s a cave!” If you play long enough. Skyrim is one of those games that you’re playing it for a bit. Realize you’re a little hungry, and then you look up from the computer and realize it’s dark outside.

Simple yet hard tip to learn for you: Look under your feet, there is tons of traps from physical traps like bear traps to creative one in dungeon that not just seriusly hurt you but can one hit you end at advance dungeons there the elemental rune traps , their better to saw but in combat you can easy-ly forget about them and later the construct traps at dwarws and anchient dungeons these are the real danger regardless the difficulty you play it on! So symplification of this is sentence: "Be Aware Of Possible Danger Around Yourself" ************** Dragonborn means that you can learn the dragon language and can talk even with dragons that do not know human language. 1st person camera is for inside locations and 3rd for outside. The reason is simple - outside you need to know especielly when you are in combat about your extended surroundings as much as you can, in dungeons and inside areas you can easielly track your surrounding from 1st person camera and its more effective for mach better accuricy with your actions inside these areas, because, from my expirience atleast, there is no benefit from 3rd person camera view in inside locations plus as i say you need to be exact at your actions especiely the combat ones or just don kill your self againts the traps under your feets, on walls and cellings. ************* There are 2 videos with bunch of shorter movies from devs itself on youtube and i think one movie show of multyple parts, maybe more at this time dont know, from fan (very quality one with custom camera and dubing)

You can play any Elder Scrolls game in any order. The game is very open world, and the point of the games are the side quests. The main quests exist moreso to introduce you to lots of side things to do, but are decent quests of their own. Skyrim Special Edition comes with the first three DLC (Dawngaurd, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn). The Anniversary Upgrade is a separate purchase that they only released in 2021. Everyone that plays Skyrim should play as vanilla as possible first time, if any mods then the vanilla friendly base mods: SkyUI and Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch. If you play Skyrim VR, you definitely need mods to make it feel good. Also Skyrim VR works with Skyrim SE mods. This game's modding community is legendary and adding new content every day. There are a couple dozen DLC sized mods, many including their own entirely new lands. On top of that, there is an entirely different video game called Enderal that you get to just have because you own the base game (it was made by a community dev team). Consider all of it as something to get into when you feel done with your first playthrough.

My tip for beginners is to head in without any knowledge, it's fun to learn and figure out things that you can only do it once. Besides, you're free to spoil yourself in another save file after finishing your first run. What I like about skyrim is cuz you get to roleplay as any character you like. It's immersive in its own right, all the more after anniversary edition hehe

The shouts are a gift to mortals, normally. The Dragonborn is unique in the fact that he or she is born with the ability to shout without training. All others must be trained in the Way of the Voice.

I know im late to this video, but regarding your question around the 2 min mark, there are 5 main elder scrolls games, which in order are Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. They all share a continunity and timeline. Skyrim is the name of a province on the continent the games take place in (the contient is called Tamriel), each game tends to stick to one country/province, Skyrim set in Skyrim, Oblivion in Cyrodill, Morrowind in Morrowind, Daggerfall in High Rock & Hammerfell and Arena on the whole contient. Skyrim does take place after Oblivion, around 200 years or so after, and Morrowind a few years before Oblivion etc. You dont need to play Oblivion or Morrowind to enjoy Skyrim, I personally played Skyrim first, then Morrowind, then Oblivion.
@WalterWild-uu1td7 ай бұрын
In the previous game "Oblivion" which takes place about 200 years before the events of "Skyrim" you essentially had to choose your race and the class of your character early on in character creation, Mage, Fighter, Thief, etc. In "Skyrim" you start with an essentially blank slate. Character creation is choosing Race (each of which has some benefits but not really fixing you into a role) and whether you would be male, female and your appearance. But you were in rags with no skills at all in the first scenes of the first act. From then on your character grows as you see fit. You have to build your character...is he/she a magic user or a melee fighter, an archer or a craftsman, a soldier or a thief. The very early part of the game is fairly linear until you get up to level 5 to 10. After that, you're pretty much on your own. The main story quest is you as Dragonborn dealing with the return of the dragons. But you can pretty much ignore that as long as you wish...you can go become a thief or join the Mages College or work as a mercenary. It's about the first really open world RPG I got into.

Skyrim is after oblivion but has certain Easter eggs that you need to play other games before you understand them I also love how each shout means something different in dragon language

I definitely recommend using mods. Stuff like Skyui if you're playing on pc. Legacy of the Dragonborn is a mod I can't play without because it gives you a reason to collect the various unique items and quests. It even changes the appearance of some items to make them more unique while also having patches for several different mods to display the stuff you get from them around the gallery along with other items you get from vanilla and dlc.

Dragons were beaten in the First Era, 2000 years in the past. They had essentially ruled the world. Now in the Third Era they are reappearing and right in the middle of a civil war in Skyrim. Your character is the Dovahkin. Dova is the Dragon word for Dragon. All the shouts (Fus Roh Dah) are actually 3 syllable Dragon words and the Dovahkin is "Dragon Born." Humans can learn Shouts but the Dovahkhin has an affinity for them. Each shout is different. One might be a force blast, another might freeze an enemy, one slows time, one give you a burst of super speed. You have to find and learn these shouts doing quests. At the same time you can join different factions, different sides in the Civil War, gain status in the different regions of Skyrim. (and there are literally thousands of mods you can use to change pretty much anything. I mean some give you extra powers or armors...and some are absurd. Making all Dragons look like Thomas the Tank Engine, or turning all the spiders into teddy bears (for the arachnophobes out there.)

I would have greatly recommend a play through without mods, then pick up mods on the second go. Just to get an organic feeling of the game then see how the mods improve and update. But hell people barely ever play without modding, cheating, or exploits now 😅

So to explain the continuity theres 5 games so far (6 counting online). The timeframes as far as I can remember are: Arena (First game, earliest besides online chronologically, Online I think takes place in the 2nd Era, every other game is 3rd/4th) Daggerfall (Second Game, maybe second chronologically? Unsure) Morrowind (Takes place closer to Oblivion then Daggerfall or Arena if I recall, third installment) Oblivion (Fourth Installment, marks the end of the Third Era and transition into the fourth Era.) Skyrim (Fifth Installment, Takes place 200 years into the Fourth Era. Besides Online, this I think is the longest timeskip in the series.) Online (Im not sure if this is considered a 100% canon bethesda game, but it takes place in the second era I think, and im pretty sure it takes place like at least a thousand or two years before Arena would take place?)

On PC you can actually mod skyrim VR to have similar mechanics to HL Alyx so it is worth getting a few choice mods. As for me, I'm playing a Nolvus build at the moment, it automates the install of 2000+ mods and my current install requires an RTX4090.

and, if you get the creation club dlc 'farming', all 3 of those ingredients can be grown/harvested on a regular basis. with the right perks, you can empty the stores, become rich and still work the trophies, since all you need is the farming dlc.

I have so many hours in this game. I am waiting for 2025 to release Skyblivion, which is a mod project remaking Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in Skyrims engine. I haven't played Oblivion in over a decade so it will be a interesting time to come back to. The games had over a decade of modding and its insane how much better it can look 10+ years later just all due to the love from the modding community.
