I often hear the following statement. "The smallmouth bass fishery is the most consistent bite on the Upper Mississippi River." 25 years ago, I would have laughed at that thought. These days it's hard to argue it.

My biggest smallmouth was a six pounder, caught in a lake in Michigans upper peninsula. Was on a purple plastic worm, was fifty years ago can’t remember the lakes name.

Biggest smallie I’ve ever caught was 21 inches had to be close to 5 lbs on pool 9 unfortunately didn’t have a scale in the boat that day so will never know for sure
