So, for learning about what Warhammer 40k is all about, I recommend watching Bricky. He has several detailed videos about different factions. As for the games, Thunder Psyker has a series called "Retrospective Review", in which he tells about the Dawn of War games.

Yep! Bricky is probably the best intro in to warhammer I could recommend. It’s an amazing hobby and he does such a good overview of everything.

Welcome to Warhammer 40k, it's a long running tabletop wargame with multiple books and video games. Someone suggested you check out Bricky and I agree, as far as seeing his "In a Nutshell" videos on 40k. After that you can just go your own way and check out anything that might catch your eye. Factions? Characters? Events? 40k has that in droves, don't worry about knowing everything, will pick up on stuff as you go along. Not even lore youtubers know everything about W40k, the idea of that is a farce. Of my own recommendation, I recommend checking out the "Mistakes of The Emperor" series by Old Man Reacts Lore. Very underrated and really good lore videos that just explain what lead to everything going wrong. Not before Bricky's videos though, gotta have some idea of what's what.

Each faction has their own long and varied history along with dozens of sub-factions within each one. Its not really possible to answer these questions because the lore is spread out among hundreds of canon novels, rule books, and dozens of video games. Bricky probably has the best introduction which gives you enough information to decide what you want to dive into specifically.

There's a lot of strategy games and a lot of shooters. Dawn of War are strategy games, Space Marine, Fire Warrior, Space Hulk Death Wing are shooters.

Warhammer 40k started as a tabletop game in the 80s where u paint ur own models and roll dice. Since then there's been countless books, and video games both strategy and shooters. There r no good guys in 40k, even humanity, is a xenophobic, fascist, authoritarian, religious zealot dystopian empire. The big guys in power armor r space marines or Astartes, who have extra organs shoved into them as children making them super human. Those girls with power armor is an all female private army of the state church, called Adeptus Sororitas, fans like to call them "nuns with guns". Those robots r called Necrons, they weren't really built, but an alien civilization millions of years ago traded their bodies for living metal machines. Those Alien movie looking aliens r Tyranids, they're just a hive mind scouring the galaxy in living hive fleets looking for biomass to devour and evolve like crazy. Warhammer started as a fantasy setting before they came out with their sci-fi Warhammer 40k, many fantasy elements made their way into 40k, including the existence of Orks as an alien race, as well as Elves as an alien race called the Eldar. Other comments have mentioned it but I'd recommend Brickys factions explained video if ur wanting to learn more

also yes, that is gameplay. theres SHITLOADS of 40k games. space marine is the third person shooter, there are strategy games, there is an AMAZING rpg, real time and turn based strategy games, and the main game is a tabletop game with armies

i'm a necron fan so i aren't going to talk about other races that i don't really fan of so i won't give missinformation but necrons are those robots and the giant robot you saw was skorpekh lord and that smaller one with giant knife was Skorpekh Destroyer and you better know that there weapons are able to cut most space marines like butter necrons are no joke it was so bad that imperium of men keeps them a secret to there soldiers to avoid morale issues

Great reaction! Welcome to The Grim Dark Future....There is only War! :) If you want to jump the Rabit Hole, i think you must watch first TIMELINE of the 40K UNIVERSE by Trazyn the Infinite. The truth is that this is a subjective narration from the perspective of a Necron Lord. (Necrons are an ancient race in the WH40K) But it gives an overall picture of what Warhammer 40K is all about. I think you should check out next Bricky's great and comprehensive videos :)

Honestly not close to tje full list of 40k games. Think we've got to be in the mid 40s with the number of titles produced at this point. Not all of them are gems mind you but there are a far few good ones missing here. Battlefleet Gothic 1& 2 for one. Also Shootas Blood n' Teef. Yeah most of them are strategy because that's what the table top is but there are a fair bit that branch out into hack and slash or the fps genre. Darktide is a co-op fps game for example. Finally Warhammer Fantasy is a thing and the og franchise. Total War Warhammer is the big pc game for that franchise. Well maybe next to Vermintide but Total War has way more content imo.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned it, but I'll tell ya. You're diving headfirst into a rabbithole. Books, miniatures, video games, and ALL KINDS of things. I wouldn't recommend buying anything from GW at the moment. There's a bit of a scuffle going on behind the scenes currently.

@@formattedorc to elaborate, the original game is a table top strategy/tactics war game played using miniture models (althrough some of them are quite large). A lot of the video games are shooters of some kind or another but there are also turned based strategy/tactics games in the vein of Xcom and RTS space battle games. Being such an expansive franchise there are all manner of different types of games in it.
