Mohanlal is a god gifted actor. Even Kamal Hasaan admits that Mohanlal is the best actor in the world. What makes him difference is as he said forgetting the person Mohanlal and getting into the character naturally. He would be probably one of the very few actors who can just play multiple characters with his moustache twisting in various ways. Devasuram, Narasimham, Spadigam are few examples. He has been into theatre performance from the beginning. Infact his Sanskrit play was appreciated to the level where Doctorates in Sanskrit language appreciated his performance. 80's and 90's had some amazing writers who turned into directors. Mohanlal got an opportunity work with all of them. I feel he has a not so good friend circle who doesnt let new directors come easily to come with scripts. Director Ranjith has spoken about it multiple times. And Mammootty naturally prefers taking risks with new directors. This could be one of the reason why Mohanlal isnt getting good scripts. I am sure directors like Dileesh Pothan, Syam Pushkaran, Ashiq Abu can bring something diferent from him. I am eagerly waiting for Thudarum because that is going to be a sure shot hit by Operation Java director Tharun Murthy.

I am not telling that Mammootty doesn't know acting, but he will not come close anywhere near Lalettan as a “complete actor”...Mammootty is handsome...and doing hard work to sustain it, but as a “complete actor”, we cannot compare him nowhere near with Lalettan. Lalettan does emotional scenes and comedy role with ease, do dance scenes delightfully...his lip movements in song scenes is superb, master in fight scene...sing songs in movies and when it comes to Indian Classical Dance like ‘Kathakali’, ‘Bharatanatyam’ etc. he does it magnificently and elegantly… Mammootty will not even dream of doing a ‘play live in stage' in Sanskrit. Now he turned as Director ...what more!!! Lalettan is undoubtedly a “complete actor”… and it's the "Sudapis of Kerala" who oppose Lalettan...no doubt …!!!

These are two very different actors.. And this 'completeness' is unclear and may only be defined from an Indian perspective on acting where dance, lip syncing, carnatic music etc. become more important. There's no one way to act, and there can't be one 'complete' way to perform.
