Hi Steve. I have a 3.6L Cadillac SRX 2012. The engine light is on and I'm getting error codes P0016, P0017 and P0325. The mechanic didn't do a visual inspection but he told me it is mostly due to a bad timung chain assembly. What do you think I should do? Hi steve i have a 2007 Cadillac sts 3.6 engine i started a few months ago having a cel but it went off now its been on awhile with p0017 code when ingot there car from a private dealer the oil life was high so i figured its been change then life % got low i check it it was real dark me beening crazy got my mom to stop get oil one day she got o reillys 5 30w put it in ive had car 3months it cranks fine it stalled twice the other day for the 1st time could it be inknow needs oil change could be the cheep oil in it and needing oil change cause i dont really hear any crazy noises like timing chain or maybe needs oil change and cam sensor just hoping not timing

Hi Steve, I have a 2014 Chevy equinox, I just had a timing chain put in it about 2 weeks ago and my check engine light came on the next day after it was put in and it's giving the P0017 code. Could this be something wrong from when the timing chain was put on? Or is it a new issue that has nothing to do with the timing chain?.

Crankshaft is bottom of engine. The one you show on top of the engine is the Camshaft sensor.

Hi. I have a ford focus st 2017. I am driving normal and i know this sounds nuts but I press down the gas pedal to launch the car fast but when I did, the check engine light lights up steady. I have like less than 8 liters fuel remaining. I drive it for like 10km but engine seems fine and normal. When I did the reading. Its detecting P0017:00:EC and P008A:00:6C. Now I sent the car in the shop to do the major service (change oil, filter and fuel injector cleaning) What are your suggestions/take on this? Thank you!

I believe that is the oil pump control valve. For the 2013 Chevy Malibu that valve is right on top of the oil filter

Hey guys, I had code p0017 and p0368 in a Sienna 08 I fixed it by replacing the camshaft sensor, the AutoZone brand didn’t work so I used one from the junk yard! Works like a charm

Hello, if you're getting this code without any other codes present, we suggest an oil change to see if the issue will still persist. Check the condition of the Crankshaft Position Sensor, Oil Filter and the Camshaft Oil Control Valve.

Changing oil worked a couple years ago.. when it threw the code ......now it through the same code again ,,,but its March 9 2023 last time I change my oil was in August 2021 I checked the oil its dirty Smells like it's losing its viscosity... Hello, we suggest checking/testing the Camshaft Oil Control Valve/Crankshaft Position Sensor. A replacement could be necessary.

I have a 2008 Chevy Colorado throwing the code : p0017, I took it to the dealership and they wanted to replace timing chain. So I took it to another shop and they swapped out the VVT Solenoid instead. It ran good for about 90 miles then it threw the code again. Should I try replacing the Camshaft position sensor before resorting to have a shop swap out the timing chain, is it possible the sensors could be the cause of this instead of the chain?

Hello Steve, i have a 2010 Rav 4 with over 90k thousand miles. The vehicle continues to stop and jerking to move forward while my foot is on the brake. The vehicle shuts off while idle. It will start back up but you have to place in drive right away and take off because it will shut off. It overall has a rough ride. It was hooked up to a handheld machine and received a P0017 code, which showed,Camshaft position sensor. Sensor B. Would that make my car sound like a diesel? How severe is this issue? Hola buenas tardes disculpe la molestia, estuve tratando de diagnóstica, una chevrolet colorado 4cil 2.8 2006 standard, realice el escaneo de la unidad, y me arrojó el código p0017 ya verifique el sensor del arbol de levas, tiene el negativo correcto 12 de tierra o negativo, el positivo 3 voltios, el cable rosa con negro si hace el cambio de voltaje cuando gira el árbol de levas 0.20 a 2.27 voltios, igual el cigüeñal solo tiene 2 cables el rosa y el amarillo el voltaje en el amarillo tiene 2.5 a 3 voltios y de rosa que es la señal que genera va de 0.17-0.20 a 2.25 voltios. La válvula vvt como podría diagnósticarla en lo personal para mi esta haciendo la falla usted que me diría Gracias y disculpe la molestia.

Hi Steve, I have a 2008 Subaru STI. I got this code after I replaced my short block. I do have a new timing belt, oil pump, & water pump. The OCV are clean and do work. The sensors are cleaned and not contaminated. The car does turn on without any issues then my check engine light turns on with only a P0017 code error. I can't for the life of me figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@marleymarley it's not the o2 sensor. I just did another oil change and rechecked the variable timing sensor and re cleaned them. The engine light was off then once the car was warmed up the check engine light came back on.

@@nondainc I had the P0016 AND -P0017. Now all that is on is the P0017. i have the check engine light,VSC and Trac control light on dash. It is a 2009 toyota venza V6. I have taken it to 3 seperate toyota dealerships and they seem to attemp to fix it with no sucess. MONEY PIT!!!. i have also had 3 friend mechanices replace things . At this point i have to assume it's a stretched timing chain,or a loose wire,or some solenoid that is dirty,i honestly have no idea,i spent to much money to have lights on in my car. I litteraly took it to 3 toyota dealerships. I AM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. i bought it for 15,000!$ Sunk 10,000$ into it within the first 6 months,and it STILL has the same error code,i am beyond frustrated,dissapointed with toyota and feel SO DEFEATED.

Getting P0017 after changing the exhaust camshaft sensor

Hello, there are numbers of causes that triggers this code so you need to do some diagnostic work to know the solution. Please inspect the camshaft and crankshaft harnesses for frayed/broken wires and repair or replace them. Check the camshaft and crankshaft patterns, this way you can identify if you have a bad sensor or a slipping tone ring. Also make sure that the timing chain/belt are correctly lined up, not loose or stretched.

@@nondainc Thank you. I checked the resistance of the new camshaft sensors, and both new ones were bad. Put old ones back in. I was trying to fix a rough idle when warm, no codes, and throwing parts at it. Changed throttle body, MAF & MAP sensors, injectors, coils, spark plugs, o2 sensors, camshaft sensors, checked the copper wire running thru the junction block when warm, double checked the BCM re: the Dielectric grease Service Bulletin, and brake booster check valve Now I have these codes c0561, c0899, c0242, and was considering new wheel bearings bc i think that’s the only way to change tone ring on this malibu; not sure yet.

Hi Sherri, kindly check the wiring/harness (to and from the crank/cam sensors) for visible damage. Test the sensors if functioning properly, check the timing chain if aligned/properly installed or if you may have jumped few teeth. Lastly, check if you may have a bad reluctor ring.

Hello, we suggest checking the condition of the engine oil, check the oil level, inspect the camshaft oil control valve, and the crankshaft/camshaft position sensor. A replacement on the mentioned parts might be necessary.
