Just a minor trivia bit - the painting is a classic painting by Arnold Boecklin named "The Isle of the Dead" and, I believe, was used as inspiration for the 1945 Boris Karloff file "Isle of the Dead"

*Trying to identify the enemy unit types* Baton people with and without shield / squads with a shield guy: Star / Star squads Cleaver people: Eule Come from the ground people: Ara Large people: Storch Giant gun boss: Minah Radio balloon heads: Kolibri Adler: Adler (update from part 6: Aras confirmed to be the ground crawlers.)
@ahcangela85492 жыл бұрын
Yeah the baton guys are definitely Stars, their note mentions that officers carry ballistic shields The cleaver enemies are Eules, non combat units that fill general purpose roles such as cooks (hence the cutlery) Aras are the ones that pop out of the floor tiles with the chunky arms, but I don't think Storch enemies have appeared yet.

Fetish also means a magical object that some people worshiped, kinda like an idol. So different replika models probably have different items that they're attached to due to the personality (neural pattern) of whoever the original person they're based on is. MNHRs like plush toys. :P
@dgmt12 жыл бұрын
while fetish does have a 2nd meaning of items that are regarded as magical by superstitious people, I believe the reference used in this game is the more general meaning of something that a person has an excessive interest in. These types of fetishes can be both sexual an non-sexual. A cake fetish for example just means someone is obsessed with cake rather than they get off on having sex with cakes. In the replika's case I'd guess they are obsessed with something their original held dear or was strongly connected to their personality.

Starting off into the weekend with another great Signalis video (thank you, dear Welonz!) and some more translating :D Sicherheitstechniker-Aufseher = security engineer supervisor/overseer .. or what the game says. Damn. (doing this while watching so sometimes the game translates stuff I just typed in here.. :D) Sechzehn = sixteen Klimaforming = climate forming? So.. artificially changing the weather? After the little cuscene with Adler and Isa: Und niemand wird uns vermissen. = And nobody will miss us. = "Beyond the sun, in the darkness behind the stars I saw the face of a god, a form and colors words cannot describe. I saw the six sides of the world unfold, and the light devoured me. I had become one with the void [...]" (the rest of the text is unintelligible to me since it's partially covered) Stirb = Die MNHR (Mynah) was the boss battle Replika Führungskommando = operational command I hope I didn't miss too much!
@ThreeKes2 жыл бұрын
Yeah "Stirb" is the imperative "Die!" and, not concerning translation but just another thing worth noting is the painting at 29:15 is called "Isle of the Dead" by a swiss artist who produced several slightly different versions of it over a span of 10 years or so. It's unfortunate how the game doesn't communicate how it made quality of life improvements to standard game menus. You can access the documents and stuff in any type of screen and change the frequencies of the active radio with the D-Pad while standind around.

25:52 just to clarify a bit this puzzle, there's 2 rows of numbers and each number under a specific fuse is either added, substracted or multiplied to the base 120 number, depending on the shape of the fuse above. In the end the 2 rows mean this: x6 x7 x8 -50 +80 +20 -10 x2 x3 x4 +30 -190 -60 -100

Thanks for another part Welonz! The Gestalt and Replika distinction is pretty reminiscing of Nier, but I think the creators mentioned how they were inspired by Blade Runner, and that has Replikants, so makes sense. It's really satisfying to have things click in my head when you read out the in-game files after having completed the game. There's so many little details and motifs and stuff, it's great.
@mialon5573 Жыл бұрын
The term "Gestalt" seems inappropriate in this game, since here it refers to normal humans. Literal meaning of Gestalt is form/shape, in psychology it seems to mean sth like "foreground personality in a specific situation". I guess in transhumanism it would refer to " sth that has a (possibly static) personality."

I've been haunted by this game and am so glad you picked it up! Been enjoying your musings on the worldbuilding as well, which I especially love when it comes to indie titles. Part of me wonders if the (intentional?) blurring of lines between Gestalts and cyborgs results (or is the logical conclusion) in a world where humans are treated as little more than instruments towards a goal. The breakoff Nation seems totalitarian and people - or more precisely manpower - are really only a means towards an end. While Gestalt commanders are deemed more sophisticated and put in charge, at the top of the military foodchain, cyborgs aren't far behind in complexity with their personas/psychological profiles giving them motivation - but at the same time emotional, sometimes irrational, needs and behaviours. That thin thread of desire, madness, and the question of what it means to be human seems all but overwhelmed by an oppressive and horrifying world, yet Elster keeps going... (I've read that the game's creator drew influences from directors like Kubrick, Lynch and Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame, and I definitely see it!)
@ГуглГовно-м7н2 жыл бұрын
So, we get to see Falke, the Commander, who is a Replika but isn't an infected zombie. She's just... shut down? From no longer willing to live? After going to the mines and getting her mind "contaminated"? On Elster's "Diagnostics" panel, there's this dot display - I think it's Persona, the stability overview of it. The red failure state on the bottom is "Catatonic". So, whatever happened to Falke, I think it ended with her destabilizing and drifting there - to a full catatonic state.
@o-mangaming50422 жыл бұрын
Let's see, things I feel like I'm picking up: This takes place in our solar system if I guess correctly, The star map shows the inhabited worlds. The poisonous clouds beneath the Imperial palace sounds like Venus. The ocean world being on the third orbital makes me think Earth. (The first orbital is empty, implying there's an uninhabited world right next to the sun. Hello Mercury.) The red desert matches Mars. The ice moon orbiting a gas giant would match Europa orbiting Jupiter. That sixth world talking about a gas giant's rings would be Saturn. Probably the way the "robots" work is that the bases of their neural nets are composed of the memories of a living human. The robots' personalities (Personas) are laid over top of those memories, and stabilized with various means like journal writing and special focal objects the game calls Fetish objects. And yes, Fetish has more than one meaning. In this case "an inanimate object worshiped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit." (Thank you Google.)
@naoxmon2 жыл бұрын
Yes both fetish and persona are terms used in psychology or psycho-analysis. Persona is the public personality, and fetish can be nonsexual and just what the definition says. The easiest example of fetish object I can think of is often babies or young kids will have a favourite plushie (or other item) that comforts them, sometimes they can't sleep without it. Objectively that object has no function or power but to the baby or kid it's everything and having it will always "magically" soothe them.
@ГуглГовно-м7н2 жыл бұрын
The "ocean world" is called "cradle of humanity", so yeah, it sounds like it's what remains of Earth. As for how Replikas are made - I think their personalities are basically human (Gestalt) personalities, except stripped down of memories and other unnecessary things, and stabilized. Basically, human minds turned into purpose-specific mass produced tools.

Yeah, Replikas are clearly not just "servants and laborers" in this society. Some of them definitely are servants and laborers - but Falke and Adler, the Commander and Administrator of S-23, are both Replikas too. So are the Stars and Storches that seem to comprise the entire security team. When Commander "falling ill" was first mentioned, I expected the Commander of this facility to be human - but no, the one in charge was always a Replika. I think this has to do with just how totalitarian this society is. Replacing humans in charge of remote facilities with Replikas, who are known quantities, perform consistently and wouldn't disobey orders? Making humans subservient to them? To the control-obsessed government, that would seem like a good idea. It's a twisted sort of equality. Replikas are still treated as tools by this society, like most androids would - but humans don't seem to be treated too differently either.

stabilising persona to me would mean that since replikas seem to be biomechanical created lifeforms that their "brain" (whatever stores their conciousness and or memories) is naturally unstable and to stop them going insane or something along those lines, the template used to create their minds then has some kind of likes ("fetish objects" and diaries) that ground them and stablise their personalities.
@naoxmon2 жыл бұрын
Awesome, now we're getting into the thick (sick? :P) of it. Just a tip about the radio, when you keep it on and active while you're in 3rd person, like here 20:40, you can still tune the frequencies without going into the menu, by using the same input keys you would in the menu (Q & E for you I think).
@naoxmon2 жыл бұрын
I've seen complaints about the inventory management, and I understand it, but imo it's totally part of the gameplay loop and it works. It's not to annoy or because of some limitation but to force you to make a choice. You either choose to feel a bit safer by carrying ammo health etc but then you'll have to make more trips to pick up everything you want, or you choose to be at risk and unsafe but will be able bring back more stuff more rapidly. Or you can make a trip to clear some routes while carrying a lot, then make another safer trip to pick up stuff while carrying barely anything.
@StiWiiRage2 жыл бұрын
Just a little help for dealing with the Kolibri units. Leave the radio on and tune always so you can here the high-pitched noise so when it gets quieter tune so it stays loud. There is also a second way but that should be clear by just reading the file about them. I figured it out on my second playthrough

Shall I try to ruin the Welonz german for everbody by telling her how to prounce things correcty? I guess I'll do just 3. Ruin it only a little. Left: German letter(s), right: corresponding english version of the same sound. 1) "Z" = "TS" 2) "SCH" = "SH" 3) "E" is never silent, even at the end of a word. As for the noise to make it is always the same "E" as in "extra" or "egg". Here's a practice word (that nobody uses) with all of those that you should now know how to pronounce correctly: "Schulzentrale" (would be pronounced like "Shultsentrale")
