Set the sails, I feel the winds a'stirring Towards the bright horizon set the way Cast your reckless dreams upon our Mayflower The haven from the world and her decay Who could heed the words of Charlie Darwin Fighting for a system built to fail Spooning water from the broken vessels As far as I can see, there is no land Oh my god The water's all around us Oh my god, it's all around Who could heed the words of Charlie Darwin Lords of war just profit from decay And trade the children's promise for the jingle The way we trade our hard earned time for pay Oh my god The water's cold and shapeless Oh my god, it's all around Oh my god Life is cold and formless Oh my god, it's all around

I know how to be really really good. I know how to be really really bad. Becoming normal now is harrowing. This song helps the tug of war within: like an Umpire or a Referee saying, TIMEOUT for 4 minutes and 32 seconds. Like an Umpire or a Referee saying, Oh my god, It's all around.

The beauty of it is that life will go on. Just very differently. I hope the hyper intelligent descendants of the cockroach babies (or rat - note, likely survivors get a bad name) that survive enjoy this song when their archaeologist ancestors dig it up. I think they will - because it is beautiful.

Well the author obviously never read anything by Charles Darwin. The bleak 'everybody is out to screw everybody' is the Libertarian "conservative" pitch. The British conservative Herbert Spencer invented the notion of "survival of the fittest." He then went on to argue that the wealthy English were the "fittest." Darwin disagreed.

Don't worry about it. Misunderstanding is common. I think it is a beautiful song, and Darwin would have loved it.

A beautiful and haunting song. Charlie Darwin reduced humankind's view of themselves from "made in the image of God" to just an advanced survivalist animal. Our world is screwed up because of our selfish bent to prosper and gain ease at the cost of all of God's other creatures and creation. Darwin simply gives you no other reason for existing. We all die poor and alone, no matter how rich we may be in things or friends. Jesus Christ is the only One Who offers hope beyond this fallen world and humankind.

I’m no biologist, and as such have no business explaining evolution, but I will say it’s very tiring to see people making the same point over and over only to see it debunked time and time again. Scientific theories are not the same thing as conspiracy theories or hypotheses. Evolution is a theory, yes, but so are germs, gravity, relativity, plate tectonics, atoms, cells, heliocentrism, etc. So to pretend like it’s just a “theory” is very disingenuous. It’s not a fringe conspiracy, it is a building block in the foundation of our modern understanding of macro-biology. As for your original comment, I find it far more bleak and depressing to believe in something just because it gives you hope and makes you feel important. Humanity without divine purpose does not shrink us down to nothing. We do not need God’s meaning in order to live. It’s a common barrier to our curiosity to assume that nihilism is the only answer without God. We can still laugh at the absurdity of our confusion and “meaninglessness” and be good to one another. It’s far more beautiful, in my opinion, for humanity to recognize our universal insignificance and still search for truth and act upon our love for one another.

@@cassi5420 Thank you for your reply. I'm very sorry to read that you think having no hope beyond this present existence is a positive thing. But I am also shocked to see that you consider indisputable laws and organisms theoretical! I don't think I am very important, at all. I rather rejoice in the fact that Jesus thought you and I were important enough to willingly die for us all in order for us to be reconciled to our Creator. Truth and love have meaning, but only if we act on both.
