Great playing. I remember when this album was released, and yes, I bought the cassette tape lol. I didn’t like the album, now I love it. I guess that not a lot of people liked the album because everyone at the time was so used to Jake and his power chord songs on Ozzy’s “Ultimate Sin” and the glam period. They weren’t used to hearing Jake and his late ‘60’s Blues roots like Badlands presented. They were all, as well as myself, brainwashed with bubblegum rock. I’m almost 50, and I remember that era very well. Very nice playing. Is your Charvel the Jake signature model or homemade ?

I understand very much. I am the same generation as you.Badlands were ahead of the curve. This guitar is not made by Charvel.Made in a Japanese factory. There is no brand. It was a guitar that was in poor condition and difficult to use,I replaced the pickup, bridge, volume pot, and selector switch,painted all by myself. I did the relic myself,very easy to play and very cool.

@@nonkey Nice job on the build. Do you use the Duncan JB in the bridge ? What are the other two single coils and what wood is Jake’s original ? I was thinking about building one for myself. I’ve built and modded many guitars myself, especially the most popular EVH guitars from each of the first 6 album tours and have Duncan Custom Shop signature HB’s in them. My 1979 black/yellow has a Duncan ‘59 HB with black and white bobbins on it. I have about 22 guitars from various guitarists that I’ve built and/or modded. As you can tell, Ed is/was my mentor but I love a lot of guitarist’s stuff from back then including Jake. Cheers

@@flashy5150 Did you make and modify 22 guitars?Great! Bridge Pickup is Suhr DSV.Because all the pole pieces are screws.Front&Middle Pickups is Dimarzio SDS-1 I think wood is alder.

@@nonkey I built my EVH 5150 Kramer, body and electronics. Same with my Steve Vai Performance Flame. I have a George Lynch(Dokken, Lynch Mob) ESP LTD Sunburst Tiger that I installed an ESP neck with rosewood fingerboard and a plain maple banana headstock that George used on the “Back For The Attack” tour with Dokken. I built the EVH 1979 black/yellow striped guitar body/paint/hardware. I built the EVH Frankenstrat - modified 1979 25th Anniversary Fender Strat body(Swamp Ash), Floyd Rose, Duncan Custom Shop EVH pickup, I painted and scratched it all up the way Eddie’s was, put the same reflectors on back, it looks just like Eddie’s original. I took Chinese Gibson LP - lemon burst, sanded the shine off of it, replaced all electronics/hardware with genuine Gibson parts, larger Gotoh tuners, Duncan “Whole Lotta’ Humbuckers” + wired it with the Jimmy Page 21 tone/ push-pull Gibson pots, it looks and sound just like Page’s #1 Les Paul. I never wanna do that wiring job again, it took me about a week to figure it all out lol. These are just a few examples of what I’ve done. I’m almost 50 now, starting to slow down now, I just play and learn new music now, no building. I know that Jake E.Lee did have have a Duncan JB in his white Charvel, but what you have is great too. I use my Frankenstrat to play “Bark At The Moon” with Duncan Custom Shop EVH and there’s no tonal difference. One thing, you will get more edge and attack like Jake and EVH’s classic tone if you use a 250k volume pot, rather than a 500k. Sorry I wrote so much. Cheers
