Some more specific info from Rod: “Initial soil was a veggie mix from local nursery consisting of premium soil, compost, cow manure and mushroom compost- so a good quality base! Prior to planting for summer I will top up(and dig in) a little more compost, cow manure and mushroom compost with some blood & bone. I will also dig in pea straw from previous mulching. This year I also spread some Dynamic Lifter It’s all about continually nourishing the soil(and experimenting) I am a great believer in using Blood & Bone before each planting!”

Nothing wrong really with the capsicum and tomatoes together. They're both in the nightshade family, tomatoes can provide much needed shade during the hot days and even keep nematodes away from the peppers. Although they do need different watering requirements. The garden looks amazing and i wish i thought of planting lettuce around my eggplants. Great spacing. I'm like pa, not great spatially 😅

I think the importance of companion planting is to lower the chance of pest infestation and crop lose, without chemical interventions, by planting plants that deter pests -like basil with tomato or strawberries with strong onions.

Great video!! Love to see an update of their garden once everything starts bearing good bits in summer. And how early do they start their tomatoes to already have fruit?
@ChristieCooper
@ChristieCooper Күн бұрын
I’m sure they’d love to share it! We both started out tomatoes pretty early this year but that’s one of the benefits of growing from seed, you can succession plant and plant extra so if any don’t make it, you can just stick some more in later! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️

Hi :) Your video just popped up in my feed and I thought I'd ask you to keep an ear open for any unusual tips you might come across for keeping birds off fruit trees. I imagine that in the days before netting and CDs there were other methods that worked. I think we should be able to outsmart them. I'm going to try, for example, hanging grapefruit in other fruit trees because the birds hate them and I'm thinking they may just see them hanging there and not investigate the tree. Stuff like that. Cheers :)

Very nice ! So neat & organized w/those planter boxes remind me of my father. teehe T/y for sharing Ms Christie. Watching your channel gives me different ideas on what to grow. Sometimes not a real lot of sun in my area here but the bugs have been the ongoing problem (okra). I like how u remind that using spray for insects may also kill off the beneficial ones.

Re the strawberries: the white flowers appeared on mine last year and I couldn't bear to cut them off but that's apparently what you have to make the fruit grow big in the second year.

I don’t think they did that this time around and they only planted the seedlings this year, I think it’s one of those things that are good to do if you’re trying to get the biggest plants possible but not necessary if you’re keen for a slightly smaller earlier harvest! Hope your garden is thriving ☺️

Jealous at the very neat (and more advanced than mine) Nonna garden. To be fair, first week in November last light frost (15 Nov is my working last frost date, and I still got caught out and lost a few seedlings), then by third week in November, three days of over 35! Total insanity. But it does not stop there, it has been raining now for days, I am sitting here hot and muggy. No actual harm planting tomatoes and peppers together that I know of, they are both nightshades. But in companion planting world, no benefit either. Companion plants are like the nasturtiums, the allium family, and a few others. Don't forget to plant just a few ornamental flowerers as well to attract the pollinators. Extremely jealous that Nonna has the passionfruit looking so good, mine cannot seem to handle it where I am.
