They never liked each other but had made peace with each other before Kobe's passing. Shaq even admitted after Kobe had died that he hadn't talked to Kobe since that interview he had with Kobe which was a year or two before Kobe's death.

@TAD Kobe was just being respectful by giving tips to Shaq's son whenever his son asked for tips but him and Shaq were not hanging out with each other or keeping in touch. Before Kobe's death, Shaq hadn't talked to Kobe in over a year. If you really like someone you don't go more than a year without talking.

The feud was both of their faults. Anybody who says otherwise is simply defending the player that they like the most. They were both superstars who let their pride get the best of them and the Lakers couldn’t handle both of their egos. Shaq was the leader who admitted that he was lazy while Kobe isolated himself from everybody and felt like he had to prove he could be the leader of the team

I blame Phill for allowing Shaq to openly be lazy. On the other hand, Kobe isolates himself from his teammates off the court. That is toxic as hell and other teammates felt it as well(One of them called him out on it). Kobe is the most to blame for this feud. For the record, I don't care for either player

They are both eachother's polar opposites and this is why it worked so well while it lasted. Shaq was a kid trapped in a adult body while Kobe was an adult trapped in a kid's body. Shaq really didnt want to push himself over certain limit while there were no limits in Kobe's mind when it came to imporving. I understand perfectly why they both disliked eachother at some point. Shaq is a guy who would push himself as much as its necessary and not a drop more. He did that well and he achieved results. No question about it. With Kobe it was never enough. Kobe wanted perfection not just doing what was necessary. So Shaq's attitude clearly iritated him because Kobe knew Shaq had way more to give than he really did. For someone like Kobe that was frustrating. Shaq is a person who lives the spotlight and every match for Shaq was exposure. He craves the attention while for Kobe playing a season's game was just another day in the office. They were day and night but they really complemented eachother very well.

Jordan achieved his peak because he bought into Phil's offense and played within it, randomly taking over when he felt he had the hot hand. He would have absolutely worked with Shaq. There is one part of this video that sums up a lot of what happened with that Lakers team... It's the part where Brian Shaw is describing Kobe's behavior. A lot of people were simply too young or have forgotten what he was like for a very long time. There's a reason after he ran Shaq out of LA the team sucked for a few years, nobody wanted to play with him. He was standoffish, reckless, and pretty much an asshole. He wouldn't hang out with anyone and he kept up this front that he was working so hard that he didn't have time for friends. I can imagine there must have been a lot of frustration and eye-rolling. I mean imagine being on a team with the guy and he doesn't even invite any of you to his wedding. That's just kind of how he was and he was openly antagonistic/stand-offish to his teammates. He was pretty damn insufferable for a long time.

When Shaq was at LSU he was on the team with Stanley Roberts, a year older than Shaq at the same position, and both men over 7 foot tall. the team practiced in the basement of the PMAC, which was called "The Dungeon" because of how low the ceiling was and how oppressive it felt. There are epic stories still told by employees of the PMAC and Athletic Department of the absolute epic one-on-one battles that Shaq and Stanley Roberts would get into that ended in fist fights. To say that Shaq wasn't one of the most competitive or didn't care more than most is just silly. He just knew when to turn that part off and enjoy the fruits of his labors. Not everything has to be focused on all the time for you to be great at it.

@@YaNeverLearn as a Laker fan or even a basketball fan who's been following the league quite a while, its already a given that he is pointing out to 2001. And it was clear when he said after the Lakers first title. Maybe he didnt specifically mention 2001 but it was already obvious :)
@YaNeverLearn
@YaNeverLearn 2 жыл бұрын
@@axelgiosido4997 You clearly aren't listening to the commentary in the video. 3:22 - 4:12 he literally says "2001", then from 4:13 - 4:21 he says "next year", indicating 2002, which would be the season he's indicating they steamrolled. The Kings took them to 7 games, which is anything but a steamroll. Also if you were a true Laker fan you'd know they played the 76ers in 2001. They played the Nets in 2002.

From the way I see it, Kobe wasn't selfish, he was a beast. It made him crazy that his colleagues were partying while he was doing all he could for the himself and the team, he wanted Shaq to have the same hunger he had, there's nothing wrong with that... And history proves it. Kobe is one of the best players in History and Shaq is known for being dominant. Just imagine Kobe and Jordan on the same team, it could've happened... Two beasts who would only think about winning.

Buddy be real here and recognize that kobe was playing catch up, of course he needed to work on himself harder, Shaq was established and leagues above kobe as an inherent specimen of the game. Shaq was partying, showing up to training camp with a potbelly and still getting Finals MVPs in those chip runs.

@@ultimateyagerman That's why Kobe is mad. all those natural talent, yet he didn't put in any effort. You wouldn't understand because you didn't experience meeting someone like that as a player. He thinks of him as a rival of some sort, someone he needs to pass. And if that someone doesn't even take things seriously, it's like stepping on your efforts. and think it's a waste to see someone with great talent end up like that. Even Shaq regrets it to this day. He said if he just made more effort, he would be one of the names in the goat debate.

@@kouani1995 didn’t put any effort? Is that why he has 4 rings with 3 fmvp and an mvp along with 2 scoring titles, 3 all defensive teams many all star and all nba selections? Casual statement
@Fusionade
@Fusionade Жыл бұрын
@@jasonmoukala8909 I think the casual statement is the one that looks purely at stats without taking anything else into consideration. Shaq won the genetic lottery being as massive as he is. If not for being 7'2, he would never have made he league. His work ethic is far too poor to accomplish something like making the NBA without being physically born into it. Yao Ming really showed the difference between skill and physical gifts when they first met. Shaq finally encountered someone who could physically stop him and he was embarrassed play after play. Shaq had absolutely zero work ethic, and the team only had success when he would finally get back in shape (as this video showed numerous times). It's why Kobe has more rings without Shaq than Shaq does without Kobe: work ethic. No reason a 6'6 skinny player should ever end up with the greater career than a 7'2 monster if they both applied themselves to their job equally. But clearly, Shaq didn't. And Kobe was rewarded for his efforts in that 2008-2010 stretch while Shaq bounced around the bench of 3 teams. Shaq's retirement came and went with crickets , and Kobe's came with a massive farewell tour closed out by a historic 60-point performance. As all things should be.
