Dennis is the best role player of all time in my opinion. Not just because he’s one of the best rebounders, hustlers, and outlet passers but because he actually made the other players play worse. His off the ball defensive antics are legendary. Dennis got in plenty of fights but wouldn’t actually punch you. He would just piss you off until you shoved him or tried to punch him and then he knew he was in your head. You’re more worried about how to hit him back without getting caught rather than focusing on your game. Bro was like poison to opposing players.

Id go as far to say he is the best off the ball player, he kinda defended 5 guys at the same time, not in literal sense of locking them down, but in the way you explained, plus you were always scared if you miss against him more than agains others because you knew that the ball will almost always end up in his hands. also works other way around, if you are on his team your shots are way more relaxed knowing he is waiting if you screw up. he himself once said something similair to this

While Rodman was a great player, he was also unique. His near-complete lack of offense keeps him from being ranked as highly as some of the greatest of all time. Rodman was considered highly talented, but also extremely controversial. He also clashed with coaches, teammates, and the media during his time in San Antonio, so the Spurs were eager to move on from him despite his impressive rebounding abilities. He was one of the very best one-on-one defenders to ever play the game. Also, He played 14 seasons with the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. He also clashed with David Robinson and never seen to respected him as a player, so he never liked him at all.

@@sideshowbobsaget8876 No it is not disrespectful at all. He was tenacious and you got to give him credit for it period. Bill Russell is a legend ofcourse but Dennis is in a league on his own aswell. He'd make Bill Russell proud so comparing them is pretty good. Rodman got heart, he wants it bad and usually that spooks alot of players to play out of their comfort zone but yeah they couldn't win over his tenacity. Rod completes teams, explains alot of the history of Pistons, Spurs and Bulls and it's totally true those teams couldn't have won championships without him so is it still disrespectful to compare him with Russell? He was a rebel so he can't be made as a poster boy by the NBA "Too controversial" but he could have been one of the NBA's poster boy if he cared about image and his resume is nothing to scoff at. Take Stockton for instance, dude is a beast but yeah he played dirty. You won't hear the NBA make him a poster boy but it's undeniable how good Stockton was. His competitors hated him that much which just speaks volume on how smart he played and there wouldn't be a Malone without Stockton a league all on his own that one too.

Malone was playing at an All-Star level before Stockton was even a starter, again you're comparing a role player to an MVP. That's like comparing Horry to Rodman. The Pistons were in the 87 ECF when Rodman was 8th in min, Rodman never won with San Antonio, the Bulls had a 3peat before Rodman.

Dennis made rebounding a science. He got to the top, by figuring out the most likely trajectory of a rebound from every other player on the court, and being there when it happened. Brilliant basketball mind. Nothing else mattered, and that made him one of the premier rebounders of his era. He was also the only NBA player to look good in a dress. There should be a trophy for that.

One of the greatest rebounders and defenders. He won 7 straight rebounding titles (Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain never did that feat) . He also won 5 titles with the Pistons (Joe Dumars and Isiah Thomas) and Bulls (Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen) .

Wilt and russel would have 13 straight rebounding titles if one of them played in another era so they didnt have to compete againist eachother and rodman was never the best player on his the rings that he won

In his book "Rebound", Dennis got the nickname "Worm" from the way he played pinball machines in the late 1970s. ... I read that book as a kid In the 90s.

I'm a PF in every game I play, of course ball hogs and other players don't appreciate the way I play, I like defense and rebounding so much because of Dennis Rodman, I can score a bit in the mid and I always wanted to do is literally fight for the ball with the big dudes. I feel like I'm in my element when it comes to that.
