In sports, we celebrate success, we celebrate winners. Carving your name in record books is a tall and daunting task, but if you manage to get at the top of the mountain, you will be showered with fame, glory and praise.
On the other hand, there are negative records, for which you don’t get celebrated, but you still get remembered. When you suck, you better suck like nobody has sucked before. I’m pretty sure nobody said that phrase before, but it might as well have been the motto of the NBA teams that we are going to cover in this video.

Not being American, in 2014 when I really started getting in to the NBA I'm like "ok I need to pick a team". Because I love an underdog I picked the worst team in the league. A team coming off a historically bad season. That team was the Milwaukee Bucks. Gotta say that worked out well

When Tarpley was suspended , he headed to Greece in order to keep playing basketball . Our league was then in par with the Spanish ABA for the best league in Europe . Averaging 23 ppg and 18 rpg , he was a key asset in Aris winning the 1992 1993 Saporta Cup . Next season , coach Giannis Ioannidis called Tarpley to Olympiakos . There , he created a super team with teammates such as Panagiotis Fassoulas , Milan Tomic , Euthimios Bakatsias , Giorgos Sigalas , Dragan Tarlac , team captain Argyrios Kambouris and the team's co-megastar Zarko Paspalj . With 22 ppg and 20 rpg he led the Reds in the double ( championship and domestic cup ) and 2nd place in Euroleague . It's too bad such a player died because of outgame factors . If he could control his personal demons he could have been an NBA legend . RIP great man , we ALWAYS remember you here in Pireaus .

I saw the '72-'73 Sixer play and win on the road. They only had eight players (the minimum), and the eighth, the outstanding Hal Greer near the end of his career, sat on the bench all game due to a real injury. But they had one advantage that evening-- the Seattle SuperSonics players were disgusted with their coach and rumor has it that they threw the game in order to get rid of him. It worked.

I remember the bobcats season all too well. We were excited because we were gonna get AD until Tom Benson bought the New Orleans Hornets from the NBA that year, and I don’t care what anybody says, one of the conditions of that sale was the #1 pick that year. The Hornets were 21-45 and the cats were 7-59. That’s an outright robbery.
@gluserty

Some inaccuracies with the 1990's Denver Nuggets though: they had one magical playoff run (made it up to Game 7 of the second Round in 1993-94, which included an upset of #1 seeded Seattle in the First Round), but only made the playoffs one more time with Mutombo the next season, while completely falling off the map entirely afterwards. Also, the Nuggets never posted better than 42 wins (that 1993-94 season again) the entire decade. I will say that the 1990-91 Nuggets scored a lot of points, but were pretty inefficient offensively (27th in shooting percentage) and gave up a ton more (119.9-130.8) than they scored.

@@bradbruhn9586 On paper, that does look like a good lineup, and at that point the Mavericks could be taken on good faith since they were contenders since about 1983 (honestly, the Mavs could've been a dynasty if they played their cards right; they didn't, letting numerous players leave and bypassing franchise players in the draft, yet they still managed to be good). But like you said, not meant to be (one Mav from this era who still made an impact later in the 1990s was Derek Harper, who was the Knicks best player in the 1994 Finals).

Back to that team on your list: We were 7-64 with 11 games remaining went 4-7 in the last 11, and 2-0 in the last 2 to make sure we didn't end up with the worst record in history at the time.

Very interesting video, but the harsh reality about some of these teams lack of success is their location. The small market and unlikable weather in the cities they play in has been the reason why franchises like the Timberwolves, Kings, Hornets, Pistons, and Blazers haven't been where big-name, all-star free agents prefer to sign during the off-season.

At 8:41, the 1983 "Fo Fo Fo" 76ers. "Fo Fo Fo" was Moses Malone's postseason prediction, meaning a clean sweep of the playoffs. Moses and Company actually went "4-5-4," losing only one game, as the Sixers, led by Malone, Julius Erving, Bobby Jones, and Maurice Cheeks won the NBA Championship. (Moses Malone was named the NBA Finals' MVP.)

You might want to consider the Providence Steamrollers of 1948. In arguably the worst season in NBA/BAA history (the amount of talent drain leaguwide to other leagues like the ABL, and NBL in the offseason was astounding and would take a few years to build back up through teams joining from the ABL and NBL), along with that it probably wasn't even the strongest league in the country at the time, (The NBL was arguably the dominant league) meant a pretty mediocre to poor product on the floor overall, but at least there was a lot of parity in that weakness as no one could be really good. Of the 8 teams in the league, 6 of them won between 26, and 29 games (in a 48 game season), 1 team won 20 games, and then there is the Steamrollers who won 6 games (equals 10 wins in an 82 game season). They were a larger percentage away from the next worst team that season than even those bobcats. Before the season started, they 10 of their 17 players, their first round pick decided to go play baseball instead in the MLB, and their ALL-BAA addition in Frankie Baumholtz from the Cleveland Rebels dispersal draft decided to leave the BAA as well (Also to play baseball instead). The end result was pretty disastrous on all counts in a 6-42 win season. They would last just one more year before disbanding.

Maybe not by the numbers, but I'd pick the 1993 Mav-wrecks as worst ever. Bad roster, bad coaching, demoralized locker room. Honorable mention to the 1987 Clippers. Their roster had maybe one player a good team would want. The 2016 Sixers who bottomed out deliberately, so they weren't as bad as the record looked. From 1985-1993 there was no upside to tanking. Whether you finished dead last or just missed the playoffs your lotto odds were the same. Meaning those Mavs and Clippers lost 70 games despite their best efforts.

The 1997-98 Nuggets had 28th offense and 29th defense in the league, but not out of 30, but out of 29 teams. The Bobcats wouldn't join the league for several more years, so the Nuggets were practically dead last in both categories.

If you wanted to throw another team in there, my pick would be from the NBA's predecessor, the BAA (Basketball Association of America). That team would be the 1947-48 Providence Steamrollers with a record of 6-42. What made this record all the more infamous was that all three teams that finished above them (St. Louis Bombers, Chicago Stags and the Original Baltimore Bullets) finished the season with identical 28-20 records. Baltimore, with its player-coach, Buddy Jeanette won the championship that year.
