When I first landed in Hyrule, I was shocked at really how different it is, because people like to focus on the people, places, and things at are the same but it felt like retuning to your childhood town after 30 years and seeing everything that is different.

its similar enough that i knew the general area i landed in but it still felt so different that i second guessed myself until i saw the castle's position and confirmed i was right with my initial instinct. all that just within the time it took to swim out of a small pond and climb up a hill.

That’s my issue right now lol. My older brother had an Xbox series s just sitting and he wasn’t using it since he’s always in his ps5 or switch (when he does play games he’s not on them 24/7 lol) he just wasn’t using it so surprised me with it so I could play Jedi survivor and other next gen games on gamepass he knew I wanted to trying like plague tale requiem and deathloop and I just got it last week a day after I got totk lol. So I’m trying to jump between but I keep wanting to play totk lol. The more I explore the more I’m getting into it. I’ve been doing side things and just getting distracting so I’m like wood here I’ve only done two of the regional quest lines cause I keep looking and like “oh that look interesting what’s that smoke there, there’s green there” lol. It feels like botw and plays like it but the new abilities have me more engaged in experimenting with totk then breath of the wild did. Love it.

26:13 My guess would be the volumetric effects on the Sky Islands. All of the volumetric clouds, that also become volumetric fog as they pass over you, are very computationally-heavy and are some of the best I've ever seen. They really look fantastic and again provide just another example that Nintendo's software engineers are actually real-life Wizards. Sure, Tears is only rendering at 720/900/1080p, but short of ray-tracing volumetric effects are almost always the most performance-heavy graphics settings in a PC game. And again, in Tears those clouds needs to be rendered such that the player could *_move through them at any time._*
@gnarface3831
@gnarface3831 Жыл бұрын
The moving through is crazy to me cause the obvious shortcut is to make them 2d to save on the CPU load. They definitely have ongoing optimizations that change how things are rendered based on what the game predicts you’re going to do next. The loading screens lower the GPU and overclock the CPU so we get quick loads. They really should boost up the memory speed if they can, even if it’s only under heavy loads cause that was the biggest performance gain
@TheOnyxSpy

They honestly are wizards. I think the absolute CRAZIEST thing about TotK is that the entire game is 16GB 😶 What kind of technological wizardry and magic does it take to do that?! There are literally save files for games that are like, 1/16 the size of this entire game, it's NUTS

The confusion about fusion and durability is that fusing doesn’t seem to actually repair things, but it does increase durability on items that aren’t destroyed already. Like a twig fused with a rock will last longer than a twig by itself, but if the twig is almost already broken, the then adding a rock really won’t help. It’s still almost broken.
@guuumby_1468
@guuumby_1468 Жыл бұрын
The scale is ratio based. If you fuse it at 100% weapon health it will give you a larger overall health i.e. 1000/1000 HP. If you put it on at 2/100 and assume that the fuse adds a multiplier of 10ths base health number will be multiples (2x10=20) leaving you with a weapon health level post-fuse of 20/1000.

To anyone frustrated with weapon breaking there are rock octorocs in Eldin region and they work the same way to botw. You can repair and buff your weapons there, they do it every blood moon. So find the spots that have 2-3 octorocs drop a travel medallion there and you can repair your savage Lynel bows and silver Lynel blades there. After a point in the game you will juggle between 2-3 weapons and 2-3 bows.

Personally, I don't understand harping on reviewers for being "biased." Reviews are inherently opinion and I don't think there's any way to objectively review art. I think the smarter thing to do is find reviewers you tend to agree with and listen to them. Like, I don't listen to Anthony Fantano's reviews because I think he's "objectively right," I listen to him because my tastes are similar enough to his that I can find cool new music. I don't understand focusing so much on whether or not the Meta Critic score is right or not.

I keep feeling like I am learning from every shrine I do, sort of like with every new level of Super Mario World. With Mario, you see coins, and they trigger the question of how do I use what I know to solve this puzzle. In Tears of the Kingdom, you enter a shrine, see goal, then think about what you can do to reach the goal. I have built so many bridges to solve rails or flying machines to reach a deck ascend could have reached. Every shrine expands my abilities within the game. Tears of the Kingdom 11/10

55:00 for anyone who's curious about the durability thing, so each weapon has an innate durability, and a possible fuse durability. It has a maximum durability though, fusing a monster part will give you the maximum fuse durability possible all at once. if you fuse something with durability itself though like another weapon, it will use the possible fuse durability but be draining the attached weapon's durability itself. I think the average fuse durability is 25 additional durability with the exception of a few weapons. But so if you have a 5 durability weapon and fuse a 6 durability weapon you'll use up the 6 durability weapon and when it breaks, you still have a possible 19 durability remaining if you fuse it again. And if you used 4 of the durability before even fusing then you just add up to 25 durability, but you'd still have base durability + fuse durability. Bottom line, thinking about fusing as repairing your weapon is wrong conceptually, you have a limit on the durability no matter what you fuse, but fusing does increase the durability up from base by a fair amount.

15 hours in I was determined to seek out a place I "shouldn't be at" and I got spine tingles from the atmosphere and then promptly fled after getting in way too deep. Nintendo clearly asked "why would a player do this?" regarding every single aspect of the game and have made every facet of it compelling. TIP: On modern day 4K TVs the game can be made to look a lot better if you lower the brightness, up the contrast and colour, and sharpen it a bit. It makes all the colours pop and also deepens the shadows significantly.

It is a good game though, it’s amazing, is it the greatest game of all time? Eh, it’s up for debate. Tbf most negative reviews are usually just people who are butthurt about something or who just hate for the sake of hating. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, people will hate and people will love the game. Elden ring got hate because people were butt hurt about getting killed all the time because they refused to learn the mechanics so they blamed the game and called it horrible when others know it was an amazing game. We can literally have a game that can be flawless but people will still find something to be negative about.

That's also weird. You cannot drop items right in the "option" menu. That's a weird in my book The thing is, I find them weird. If you don't that's awesome but I'm not complaining for the sake of it, this is the best game ever made. It doesn't make it flawless tho. At least, in my opinion

Really like bobs point on people not consuming any Zelda content on KZbin. Lol I know personally I only watched the last trailer once and didn’t watch any videos on the game at all for a couple months before release. And I’ve only now started watching a couple KZbinrs play throughs cause I’m a good amount into the story. I don’t mind seeing small stuff I either potentially missed or other peoples thought process on the game now cause I’m a good 20ish hours in. Just avoiding story spoilers till I finish that now

If you remember an old game called Beyond Good & Evil, there was a selection wheel for the alphabet that went in spiral. It went from A to Z and after that seamlessly repeated itself. I wish TotK item and weapon selection was made in that manner.

I think its absolutely ridiculous that a large chunk of this video was being upset that there were two negative reviews of the game and saying that if you dont like the game you shouldn't review. That is honestly really stupid. That's the purpose of reviews- to tell if something is good or not. If a restaurant only pleases 3/10 customers, but only the ones who have a good time review it, I'm gonna expect a good meal and be hugely let down and have wasted my money and my time. Even if the restaurant pleases 9.5/10 people, but only the positive experiences review, then Im going to expect perfection and if those few issues some people had crop up, Im going to be more disappointed than I would had I been expecting from the get-go some possible hang-ups with the establishment. Likewise, if I go to a game review website and all the reviews are gushing across the board, I am going to assume that there is literally nothing wrong with the game at all. That it will be massively enjoyed by literally any player in the world. But the second reviewer is correct- if you *like* a linear story and quest flow and *don't* like being left to wander, this is probably not the game for you, in fact it is probably the worst offender of all video games in your eyes. So not being warned about that would be awful because now you're out over $100 ($90+tax) in total for a game which wasn't designed for you. I *want* to hear somebody's opinion that they honestly hated it and that it didn't innovate as much as they were hoping. If I were to check out the reviews on a game and saw 96 I'd go 'wow, that's high' then I'd look at the reviews and see that it's actually basically perfect expect for a few people and be even more impressed. And what it would tell me altogether is "this is a perfect game *UNLESS* you are this type of player. And that is useful. That is the point of these websites. It was really odd seeing two adults (less so Wulff) talking about these people like they'd commited a crime. Like the game is too sacred to review poorly. To move away from the topic of the video to go through these people's profiles just to see what they reviewed everything else, to try and justify saying that their opinions are either all wrong or that they conflict. It honestly felt really childish to watch and I would have left the video but I was enjoying it a lot before that and wanted to wait for it to get back on track. I've only seen a few of this channel's videos (though I've seen some of each individual's videos and am subscribed to Wulff) but I still felt disappointed.

I totally get not understanding why someone doesn’t like something that’s important to you. It frustrates me all the time. But you really can’t rag on someone this much just for not liking the game. It’s a 10/10 in my book, but I understand why it’s not the kind of game some people like. And that’s fine. If you’re a reviewer it’s your job to give your opinion, not just do what everyone else does.

My biggest critic: The beginning is way to linear for a Zelda game, going from A to B, its like ok you got the abilities now let the game start. Second: I wish the upper World would have bigger Islands to explore. 3rd: I wish the shrines would ve really heavy riddles and much bigger. 4th: The exploring and searching für shrines in botw I liked better. Botw and Totk are both awesome.

@@worldhumanisticforumthegoo2861 Yeah, the NES game was the least linear. But there was still a definite correct order to doing things in. And then most of the series after that, everything from A Link to the Past to Ocarina of Time to Link's Awakening were all very linear with some sidequests thrown in to allow some exploration on the side.

I'm playing TotK in 4k on my Switch 😎 I'm using the mClassic and the PhotoFast 4k upscaler (the red one, not the Pro, the PhotoFast Pro 4k upscaler sucks). The mClassic is responsible for smoothing the edges and making the colors better, then the PhotoFast takes the signal and upscaling it to 4k. And it looks AWESOME on my 65 inches Samsung 4k TV. You guys need to try this.

My biggest gripe, if ypu can call it that, is the way ypu sepect items to throw and attach to arrows. It would have been way better to just have a wheel of maybe 16 items set up exactly how you change the abilities with the option to just slot which ever items you want to that wheel. I hate the long scrolling list.

Spoilers for one of the stable quests: So at each stable has a mini quest for you to do and theyre all fun little mysteries to figure out. my favorite so far has been the one closest to Rio village where they've lost their goats. This was after they were fed whole pinecones for some reason. I was walking away and noticed that there were quite a few pine cones on the ground as i walked and thought hmmm, this is interesting. I followed them and what do I find? goats. Now the way I'm describing this sounds like it was an obvious thing but to be honest I wasn't even doing the stable quests at this point. I'd spoken to the stable hand who mentioned in passing that he was using pinecones in his goat food. Not obviously, just in passing. Then I noticed some random pine cones on the path. I even picked some of them up foor fuel. They weren't like like a straight path or anything, just every 5 feet or so, a random pinecone. Once I started to follow them I was convinced that they weren't actually gonna go anywhere. I just followed them on a whim. It was the most organic, well designed clues I'd seen in a game. Litterally just because I followed some pine cones

the thing about the game making you feel smart regardless how you solve a puzzle is so true, but it also has a funny way of making you feel incredibly stupid when you finally realize the "intended" solution. i did a shrine where you had to push a mine cart up a steep rail using a rocket. i couldn't make it work so instead i built myself a staircase out of the carts, used the rockets to create a bridge underneath the upper area, and attach another mine cart at the end of it so i could use ascend to skip the rail puzzle. i felt like a genius. until i realized i was positioning the rocket's tail wrong and that's why it wasn't pushing me up the rail. what should have taken under a minute instead took me 15 😅 i'm still proud of myself for finding a way to hack the system, but damn if i'm not an idiot for it

Knew what structures looked like and marked if i did them its how i found mines and yiga But its also how i got into the lost woods . Couldnt figure it out at first couldnt walk i couldnt skydive in. But as i was scanning the map i saw the silhouette for the rising tower under the lost woods and it clicked.

Zelda is one of the Juggernauts of gaming, it’s a beloved franchise with multiple titles that many people rank as the GOAT. Also TOTK is amazing (other than performance issues)
