Answering your question: J.Cole headlined Lollapalooza 2022 day 3 and Hobi headlined day 4. They met at backstage, Hobi told him he’s his muse and J.Cole was super cool about it. So they probably decided to make a song together right then. Fun fact, Hobi apologized to him for his English, and J.Cole answered that compared to Hobi’s English his Korean is much worse. It was really awesome of him, touched Hobi’s heart.

Here are some things that I think make this a truly epic collaboration: 1. The immense respect they showed each other as artists. Many feature artists drop a few mediocre lines and bounce. J Cole dropped BARS. I absolutely love his part and it’s clear he took this collab seriously. He didn’t assume that because this was a “kpop” artist, his name on the track was enough. He acknowledged Hobi’s love for him. 2. In return, ain’t no WAY Hobi would cut even one second of Cole’s lines. Instead, he goes back to his roots as a dancer to express what this moment means to him. He starts in the same alley where J Cole filmed Simba, and he then shows himself dancing underground while Cole raps from the rooftop-just as he did when he was still a young underground street dancer grooving to Cole while J Cole was already on top. 3. But at the end, Hobi makes his way to the rooftop and they greet each other as equals, showing how Hobi has ascended to a place in his career where he can have a personal relationship with Cole as an artist with another artist. 4. I don’t know how much J Cole looked into Hobi’s music, but I absolutely felt that his lines had callbacks to More ave Arson. Even if not deliberate, that would only go to show how much they vibe together as artists. Cole raps about how his ambition as a rapper is strange kind of hunger that gets stronger the more you eat-but also how he’s thinking about whether it’s time to let go of rap. Similarly, in More and Arson, Hobi discussed how his greed as an artist drives him so he constantly still wants more, but in Arson, he asks himself if he should really keep burning brightly or if he should be done. 5. The fact that Cole said “J Hope…Cole World” is just SUCH a huge moment for Hobi. He himself once rapped “before there was Hope World, there was Cole World,” showing what an artistic influence J Cole was on him, and now his idol is directly acknowledging him. 6. Lastly, Hobi’s lines, while short, are SO full of references to his and BTS’s past work. BTS often talks about how BTS and Army walk a beautiful path together. The butterfly reference is an obvious callback to Butterfly. The kid at the beginning could represent younger Hobi or it could be a reference to The Astronaut, in which Jin also used a kid to represent Armyand sent them on their way, telling Army they would be ok while he was gone. 7. Hobi’s chorus is a perfect message to Army-a reminder for while he’s gone that he is always with us and that we are always with him. It reminds me of the famous line from a poem by ee Cummings that says “i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)" 8. Extra greatness: The sound-the instrumentation and the whistle are somehow SO both of them. I’m obsessed. 9. Easter egg: the billboard behind Cole says “it’s my call” and shows the car from Chicken Noodle Soup. This indicates it’s a message from Hobi, and it’s a bar in itself: “it’s my call” could mean “it’s my choice, I decide” (either to go to the military, or perhaps referencing that he has full artistic control, since haters often accuse BTS of being manufactured because kpop is so manufactured) and could also mean “last call,” as in this is an ending (closing chapter 2, the solo stage of Hobi’s career, or perhaps honoring J Cole’s lyrics about retirement?), or it could mean “I’ve been called up” (called to serve in the military). It’s just…SO good and if you blink you miss it.

There's a j-hope version too. He did a live performance of it for a tv show filming that airs later this week. So J. Cole's verse is long here, but j-hope does another verse in his version. :) It makes sense to give J. Cole so much time and space here. It was an homage to his roots--street dancing to his favorite rapper. It's really a beautiful tribute to Cole, to himself and his journey, and to ARMY.

The billboard at the back is definitely from HOBI, it has the car from Chicken Noodle Soup on it and the words, "It's my call!" Likely making reference to the fact that him enlisting is about him taking charge of his own decision & path!! Be safe HOBI, stay strong & healthy, WE LOVE YOU!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Even though this song was a farewell song to his fans because he is enlisting to the South Korean army mandatory for two years, when JHope references “it’s always for Us” that’s a tribute to BTS Army this collab is also paying homage to hip hop and his idol JCole…Respect

The billboard behind Jermaine’s got the Chicken noodle soup car on it and it says ‘It’s my call’, which may be referring to Hobi doing his military enlistment and not waiting around for the SK government to stop dangling the carrot of a longer postponement. 💜✌️

I can see all of them performing one of their solo songs, but with the other members, when they all come back together. I read somewhere that Jin said the children in their goodbye MVs represent ARMY. These make me both sad and happy at the same time. LOL I had the same pupper! His name was Menchi (named for the dog in Excel Saga anime) and he was 7yrs old and still quite small, about the size of a house cat. LOL They have great personalities and are so affectionate. Menchi grew up with cats (we fostered) so he acted more like a cat than a dog. LOL

not army here but lemme say sumtn, bts is really different from other kpop groups, they never collab for the sake of charting on bbhot100, they always pick an artist who they respect, while kpop groups pick artist for their collab for the sake of penetrating the bbhot100. That's why u can tell that bts is a TRUE musician cos they CARE abt music, can't say the same with other kpop groups tho, they always releasing the same noise without any soul in it, not hating here just stating facts...as a matter of fact i think bts is not kpop, theyre like have their own genre...i respect them a lot...i was their hater cos i thought theyre like other kpop groups ; shallow, manufactured, visually-oriented, but turns out theyre completely the opposite of those shallow things.
