They issued a temporary ban on all of them pending tests of the capsaicin levels. After testing the ban was lifted on the 2 milder ones. I think the main worry was that there was a challenge going around amongst kids, and the supermarkets were quick to capitalise on it making these noodles easily available. So they pulled the handbreak the best way they could to protect kids from themself. I love spicy food also these noodles, but yeah, not everyone share my love for it. I usually set the spice level to mild when I have guests, and then set a bowl with "spice adjuster" on the table.

I'm a Dane, but now living in Sweden. When I read that these Buldak noodles was poisonous, I was worried, because I had been eating those several times before, and had more in the cupboard, including the 3X. But when I found out the "poison" was Capsaicin, I concluded they were idiots. (I think they lifted ban again later). I do think the 3x is very hot, so I usually make it with mixed vegetables and some meat, as a full meal. The others are just a "snack" 😈

Koreans eat spicy food to de-stress too, which to some might sound weird, since eating very spicy food causes distress, but that stress is temporary, taking your mind off other things that might cause stress in your general life.

Great episode. An advise. Annie, never drink cola or anything sparkeling after chili as it opens up the taste buds and and makes it so much worse. Unless you want a longer burn of cause. I was sitting here sayibng " ooh nooooo" as you reached for the pepsi. About the peber. It comes from the old Danish word Pebermø and Pebersvend. Which is equivalent pebermaid/old maid... not sure what to the word is for an unwed man. But back in the day, the spice seller was usually an unwed man that would travel around. So being 30 and unwed pretty much means, that there is only one way to go from here. In to the spice trade, as a traveling merchant. That's why they get spices. I have never seen the thing with the pole, except on the internet. Instead it would be through the mail slot, if people could not get in. If they could get in, it would be in their bed and all over. Perhaps having some drizzeled over your head, but not to the extent, that I have seen in Clips, within the last couple of years. It is also why you will sometimes see barrels ontop of eachother, to look like a pebergrinder. People will make these and place in from of where the person who is turning 30 lives. It is often filled with concrete so you need machines to move it. Sometimes you will see one of these out side a house for years, cause it is impossible to move. I personally think it is a horrible tradition, with the peber grinder. Especially when you live out here in one of the smaller towns, where there is lot of room for those. It looks horrible, and I would hate to have one of those in my front yeard. Good thing I was married by the time i turned 30.

So the cinnamon stuff: the cheap cinnamon (Cassia) used in most commercial bakery can be very high in cumarin which can damage your liver if you eat large amounts. The expensive cinnamon (Ceylon) has only trace amounts. So in your ome baking/cooking just use the Ceylon stuff and avoid bought baked goods if you can.

I bought the large cup/bowl of 3x, before it even became a trend, at my local Turkish grocery store. Have to agree, it's just hot if it has any other flavours, they're not strong enough. I like spicy food, but I prefer when there's also taste of the pepper fruit the seeds came out of, and other veggies. So my own conclusion is also that it's kinda bland or boring, if you can say so about a very spicy soup. Sure, could add various kinds of tofu, choy and perhaps crack an egg in there and add spring onions... but at that point, why not just buy a Sichuan hot pot base at the nearest Chinese grocer? That stock has so much more depth in taste than what you get with these instant noodles... it's just hot for hotness sake.

No one is claiming that Denmark is the healthiest country in the world cause it isn't. And smoking definetly do get criticized and it is slowly getting regulated and phased out, so in future generations it isn't as popular and spread out. But there is of course still a lot of people around from the older generations when everyone and their dog smoked. Alcohol is yeah.
