Try something called "sea tangle" kelp noodles. It's a noodle made from kelp (kombu) that resembles harusame (starch) noodles once it's treated with baking soda and lemon juice. Wakame itself is extremely cheap too, considering how much it expands!

Could potentially cause an overdose in iodine...... I’ll stick to the noodles. Especially after hearing of a man dying from overconsumption of licorice.
@avariceseven94434 жыл бұрын
I googled iodine poisoning and it said its hard to overdose from eating food rich in iodine unless you’re one of those vulnerable or you eat huge amount for a long time.
@jeremymetcalf61314 жыл бұрын
@@avariceseven9443 the upper limit for too much iodine usda recommends not going above 1100 micrograms. That 18 gram packet (which I reduced to 16 for packaging) has roughly 720 micrograms of iodine. As long as you stick to one bowl you’re fine. However if you’re somehow one of those people that eats fast food and consumes table salt on a regular basis you’re getting more iodine. So could easily surpass 1100 microgram limit. Do this for a while and your thyroid can burn out.
@plejade41254 жыл бұрын
@@jeremymetcalf6131 it's more just a problem for people outside Japan who are not used to, you can read a lot of articles about online that people from Japan can handle a lot more iodine. It's because of the food culture over thousands of years that includes more Seaweed/Kelp/oceanfoods than other countries (or we here in Switzerland have zero seaweed/kelp. Okay these days we do have, but not in the past^^) but don't worry, even you (as a westener) eat one bowl every day it's not bad, I would say way healthier than our fast food😁
@jeremymetcalf61314 жыл бұрын
@@plejade4125 this video is mostly watched by people who don’t live in Japan and haven’t built up a tolerance to higher levels of iodine. That’s why I mentioned it. 👍🏻🙏🏼
@plejade41254 жыл бұрын
@@jeremymetcalf6131 and I do agree. But also try to explain so noone have to worry, because as you say: as we live outside of Japan, we probably don't eat like 3 bowls every day for many weeks, that's what could may cause some sideaffects😅
