Ive made my own songs and always wanted to learn to make a lead over it. I recently subscribed and bought onto your zombie site and am blown away wirh your teaching style. Waiting for the oayday after Christmas to get the lifetime membership. Thanks for opening this up to me. Like getting a cheat code or a game genie! Thank Brian!!

You won’t regret it my friend. I bought a membership three years ago at Christmas and Brian is the teacher that got me actually soloing. It was a major transformation in my playing and confidence. Well worth it! Thank you so much Brian, that was a great gift you gave me. It was great to see your son and the Father in you. All the best!

I love how you're always playing either that same green electric or the acoustic you use. It really sums you up - there's no showing off or unnecessarily frivolity theres just 'This. This does this job. To do it like this, do this. You could do this, but thats something different and I did a ton of videos on it here.' Lots of KZbin guitar teachers have their own really valuable niche and 'just the facts, ma'am' is yours. Love what you do, thank you.

You sum up the vast majority of what anyone needs to know about soloing. Masterful, as always. No one does this better than you. Important for people to know that the two notes added to the pentatonic scale to make the diatonic are "color notes" that can be used on the way to landing on chord tones, but not as notes to be emphasized. This is just generally speaking. Of course a skillful player with a good ear for melody can also occasionally emphasize those notes to great effect to shake things up a bit once in awhile and surprise the listener while still staying within the melodic structure. Anyway, you are the best explainer of basic guitar music theory on the internet. Period

Thanks, Brian. Would you consider a follow up video on variations of using Chord Tones in soloing; e.g. 7th, Sus, etc. ? Happy Holidays!!
@zombieguitarАй бұрын
I can definitely do that too, but keep in mind that when I say "chord tones" I am always referring to the triad notes of each chord. No matter how complex the chords in the rhythm section are, the triad tones will always be the strongest notes to sustain on. Conversely, even if the chords in the rhythm section are just basic major and minor chords, you can still target extensions in your soloing (even if those extensions are not present in the rhythm chords). But again, the triad tones will always be the strongest notes to connect with the underlying chords!

Question.. I couldn't find this backing track so I found a G minor BT that was Pink Floyd based. It was basically Gm7 to a Cmaj. How does the C major fit into the key of G minor? it should be a Cmin but that doesn't work for the sound. Is it a borrowed chord? circle of 5th couldn't help me.
@zombieguitarАй бұрын
@@waltbiljan7139 that would be a Dorian progression. It is a i - IV progression, which screams "Dorian"...so to solo over that, you'd use the G Dorian scale, which has the same notes as the F major scale 🎸
@waltbiljan7139Ай бұрын
@@zombieguitar interesting. Although the Gm scale patterns you taught in your other video work great on it as well. It has a lot of common notes
@zombieguitarАй бұрын
@waltbiljan7139 you may be playing Gm pentatonic, which is why you're hearing that it still works...Gm pentatonic contains 5 of the 7 total notes of the G Dorian scale. However you might notice that when you use the full 7-note G minor scale, that something doesn't quite sound right. That is because you're using a different key-scale than what the rhythm section suggests. The rhythm section is saying "hey we're in the parent key of F major here (which is where G Dorian comes from)", but you're attempting to solo with the parent key of Bb major (which is where G natural minor comes from). Therefore there will be one potentially "sour note" if you use the G natural minor scale. The G Dorian scale will have you completely connected with the rhythm section, and you can still reduce to G minor pentatonic as well. If you like the sound of G natural minor, then by all means use that too. But just understand that you're using a different key-scale than what the rhythm section dictates in that case!
