Some mods add fun "custom starts" where you get special unique ships - i know you have at least a couple of the ones that do! Some are with the pirate faction, another is Infernal Machine, which is sort of pirate aligned but not completely hostile, fun big ship to spend money upgrading (Underworld mod.) I'm sure you have more - outta check em out if you do this again!

Woohoo, more Starsector! I just learned about this game a few months ago and am thoroughly obsessed. I haven't even gotten around to trying any mods yet. I would definitely have recommended seeking out the Insulated Engine Assembly modspec ASAP. It's a 50% sensor profile reduction by default, but if you build it in, it's a 90% reduction, which is ridiculously OP. You can have capital ships with a sensor profile of 15 😂. Chat finally mentioned it 2 hours in, but for a playthrough like this, that'd be my first step. Also, when you need to distract patrols, you can feed false data into the system's sensor array and the patrols will go off chasing ghosts. There aren't any ships like the Tempest. You aren't gonna find frigate-like performance anywhere else, so if you like fast ships, you're gonna want to just keep using them. There are several frigates that have a place in your fleet even in late game. Personally my favorite one to actively pilot is the Afflictor (the non-pirate one) with 4 anti-matter blasters on it. Phase in, massive blast, phase out. So much fun! Looking forward to the next one! I'm really gonna have to try and catch you live.

you are in for a real treat. This game is unforgiving and takes awhile to figure out whats going on but, when you do, holy crap man. Nexerlillian, industrial evolution, and underworld are all must have mods. Auto pause is super helpful too. it pauses every time you get an unknown or hostile contact on your sensors.

28:55 you want an effective anti shield weapon and an effective anti armor weapon .. i.e. 2 anti shield missiles which preferably overload/emp stun (those slugs which name i just forgot [edit: sabot]) and then hammer the fluxed out ship with anti armor guns or vice versa but most builds ive seen use the former

It's one of those easy to learn, hard to master games. For the basics a 3 or 4, endgame a little more. It's complex and detailed but not complicated

Mega described it perfectly. The most difficult part at the beginning is fighting, just take it slow and don’t try to lone wolf it (stick with your fleet, as soon as you dive in alone the other fleet will tear you up)

The combat especially with small ships like the wolf will take some getting used to. But the game isn't too complex. Done of the market stuff sometimes makes no sense however.

You really need to get more into the ship design part of the game instead of using the auto outfit function. I honestly think the outfitting is half the fun of the game.

Honestly, its not that hard to download, you can pay the same as you can with stream, and the mods are super stupidly easy to install. Probably the best 10$ i ever spent on a game, tho i think its 15$ now but still, with what is in it base game these days, well worth it. I bought it when it had JUST gotten that first update after it had had only battles, so a campaign but bare bones to what it is today but worth it, and the mods have gotten amazing over the years.

The dev dosen't mind people pirating the game, he literally gave a free cd key for people like that, and that key still works in 2023 Just buy the game lmao, the Dev's are nice and trusted, they won't run off with your money or anything bro
