Played Starsector on and off for over 2k hours over the past 5 years since I've owned it. It's such an amazingly fun game by itself, but once you throw in the mods too like Nexerelin and faction mods? Game becomes something else entirely, in a very positive way. Highly recommended game for anyone who like space sim rpg, combat, open world games.

@@Nookrium Nice taste you have. I tend to avoid random worlds, and to be a mayasura main. I get a powerful colony, but lots of permanent enemies. Losing the enemies means losing the colony.

You should consider adding a few extra factions, like Zahn, Blackrock, and the Interstellar Imperium...the new ships and weapons they add to the game make it so much better!

According to the mod index in the forum, Blackrock is outdated, and Zahn doesn't exist... Where can I find working versions of these mods?

@@sh4dow666 I believe if you go onto the forum and look at the mods section (not the posted "Offical Mods Page") there is a post about the Blackrock mod that's been updated by someone else. I have no idea if it's been updated to the latest version of the game. As an aside, it's worth checking out the mods that aren't on the pinned mods page. I downloaded one that adds music (from Stellaris) to the combat part of the game and also allows you to change the music that plays on your planets. A nice little QoL addition.

I've got a good 400plus hrs in this game throughout the years. After playing AA or AAA games, I always come back to this game like clockwork. I wonder when it's finally a full release. How old will I be by then.

have you tried increasing the ram allocated to the game? For whatever reason the default is 1.5gb worth of ram, and that will be used up fast if you play modded. My game used to slow to a crawl and need a restart every other fight until I go and allocate more ram to it.

Also, it's a good idea to take the analyze missions for derelict ships, orbital habitats, and research stations that pop up even if you don't i tend to do them - it will mark their locations in the unexplored areas for you in the future so don't miss any of them later while you are out exploring...

FYI, I installed the most recent update this weekend and started a new game. Unfortunately the mission locations are now removed when the timer expires and you can no longer use them to map things, so you will need to go back to taking notes when something comes up that you need to remember.

FWIW I always find when starting out that it's best to grab a salvage rig for better loot & a Buffalo (P) to store that loot within its free cargo shielded bays. Trick it out with militarized subsystems ASAP for fleet speed (so you can run away from battles if necessary) & expand its cargo holds (ofc) when you can, & it should do well for quite a while! :)

a couple Shepherds are better - you don't have the expanded crew requirements of the salvage rig, plus the Shepherds are a lot faster than a rig is. Also, you can add a Survey module to the shepherds and get a survey bonus for exploration. You can't add anything to the salvage rigs.

@@breakallegro True in all ways, but the rig is cheap & easy to find right at the start; you'll want to change stuff pretty quickly after then when you decide what you're going to focus on for the next few hrs

A note on the Wolfpack Tactics perk; it didn't do anything for you because you didn't have any officers. It only affects ships with officers assigned.

Wow ok for anyone watching this vid and ur new: IF you have the chance to collect a Shrike, DO IT.... They are a Fantastic little ship, even if you dont have the crew mothball it and reach a dock and kit it with a hvy blaster or Ion Pulsar, The Pirate version is a bit more versatile as its got a ballistic slot where the other is all energy. Kitting a wolf with a hvy blaster is also a sweet deal as well...

The 'win conditions' were probably added by the mod, hence not mentioned by the main game. As for your expanding strategy, yeah, getting a loaded freighter without enough combat ships to protect it is really likely to attract pirates, no? And I assume the cargo hold of the one ship must be 23 as you had 30 'lemonade' but the cops only busted you for 7, leading to my question: how do you (can you?) assign specific cargo to specific ships? Or is it too much of a pain to do normally and maybe the game knows to put the special goods in the hidden hold?
