For everyone confused by the phrase "hard r", it's a way of distinguishing between two ways of saying the word. "With a hard r" is how you would expect to hear Richard Nixon say it on his Oval Office secret recordings. "Without a hard r" is how Ice Cube would talk about the group he was in with Eazy-E and MC Ren.
@solarsolidКүн бұрын
"Hard R" is how a man who owns a slave plantation would say it. "Soft R" is how a man who's a stupid loser on a couch would say it
@SylfaКүн бұрын
To be fair, the "r word" is the first thing that would come to mind if you're not literally already in the know. Though that might also depend on the culture you're from. Luckily, searching things on the internet is really easy and I recommend it over scrolling through youtube comments to learn new things~

I am white. I have many a black friend. One time, I showed a black friend that first skit and he laughed and said I would never do that. Easiest 100 bucks I have ever made. We went out to eat and I *exclusively* referred to him as such in public many times over. Dude was laughing so hard and it made eveeyone around us noticably uncomfortable. I am still shocked we didn't get kicked out lol I have yet to meet a black person outside of Twitter that asserts anything other than "If I can say it, then you can say it, too." A lot of dark-skinned friends say the sensitivity around the word annoys them and they wish it was said so much that people no longer cared. I would be saying it here to prove a point, but KZbin will nuke the comment if I do lol

I believe that words are innocent. It's the people using them who may or may not be. Saying a word in and of itself is not hateful, racist, or wrong. It's the context in which they are used that determines that.

Saberspark did, just within the last week, make a whole-ass video about the Muppet, and we can blame Iger, the old guard (puppeteers) who want things to remain stagnant and not wanting to move with the times. You both should watch it!
@tonybippitykayeКүн бұрын
I can’t speak for everyone, but that South Park episode is genuinely one of their best when it comes to commentary. It’s already pretty ballsy to use a word like that on network television, but I love how they don’t treat it like an edge lord saying the word just to shock you (although they still somewhat do since it’s Trey and Matt) and actually use it as a segway to really drive a knife into the hypocrisy of how we treat those words and slurs depending on who’s the victim. I’ll just leave it at that if you ever decide to watch it.
@chriskoloski32Күн бұрын
I'm of the mind that everyone should be allowed to say anything as long as its not meant in an extreme way. Like if i called someone something like wigglesnorf with enough venom and hatred it could become a slur. Granted i have dated black men and women who, for some reason, liked me using the word especially during sex. Some people are just built freaky
@GavinHintzКүн бұрын
And that’s why the South Park episode about it was widely accepted and praised. It wasn’t meant to be used in that way in the episode, but to convey a message.

It's funny in an ironic way how before people didn't curse on media because they were afraid of censorship, then south park came along and destroyed those beliefs making people understand that everyone curses and it's nothing extraordinary, so people started cursing on media, only for video platforms to become scared of cursing and demonetizing, so now you can't curse anymore, it really went full circle, it's sad honestly that even light curses are censored nowadays...

If any white or non-black celebrity should get the universal pass, I feel like it should be Weird Al. There'd be no malice in it; I don't think he'd use it with malicious intent, if that makes any sense. I'm also imagining polka covers of like Run DMC or NWA songs. Mr. Rogers would a close second for the same reason; no malice. Also, the thing about the Muppets. Jim Henson originally wanted The Muppet Show to appeal to more adult audiences; there was actually a pilot of it. The official title of it, and I shit you not, "The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence". Think like SNL but with Muppets; the title was to maybe give the producers the hint.
@GavinHintz14 сағат бұрын
I think that should go for anybody. Again as long as the people around you like friends or family are ok with it and isn’t used as an insult and not used maliciously, I think that would be ok. Again as long as people give you the right to use it.

The jokes in it were so unhinged for what I thought a Muppet series could do/accomplish, and I was all there for it. 😂 If I remember correctly, the end credits to the pilot episode were what first got me into Imagine Dragons, as Animal fell through the drum used in their performance of "Roots".
