@@axserwz5022 It was those weird screams at the beginning- I didn’t get it I thought: damn isn’t that a very obvious loud noise coming from the sky that’s not normal? Just AFTER watching it did it click: Bro those sounds were the horses, that Ricky fed to the alien, inside the Alien getting abducted before it crunched them.

This movie was awesome! But, you can tell that Jordan Peele got a LOT of inspiration elsewhere. The audible screams were loud as hell, so it seemed that the creature was either broadcasting or mimicking the sound (like in "Annihilation"). "War of the World's" (the Tom Cruise version) seems to have been a major influence, too. And "Cowboys and Aliens"... whatever. Super effective, and a great movie! Glad I saw it in Dolby Digital!

one of the things that haunted me was the way you could hear the people still screaming from the alien as it flies around. I was wondering if it's them still being held alive and stuck in there (which is a scarier idea to me) or if the alien is mimicking them? and then with the raining blood scene, i was picturing that the alien just killed them all at once because of the way the screams stopped right before the blood started. either way the design of the monster in this is super sick.

That scene was sad in many different ways, but also for Gordy. Because when Gordy calmed down after the balloons stopped popping, and he saw Ricky under the table, he signed to him "What happened family?". 😢 He didn't mean to hurt them and didn't even realize he did. And he saw them as his real family even though they were just acting and probably didn't feel that way about him. And then he was giving him the fist bump which for him was probably a loving/affectionate action. All in all a very disturbing, tragic, and sad scene. My mouth was open the whole time.

I’m so happy someone else caught this major key!!!! I can elaborate (literally); Both the shoe and the way the Dad died are both known as bad miracles. Examples are: If the father didn't look up and kept his head down he probably would've survived. But by chance he did and died The child and the chimp (can't remember names) The child only survived because he didn't look the chimp directly in his eyes (which everyone else did and they were mauled in the process). The thing stopping him from looking in the chimps eyes was the shoe which, by chance, was able to balance perfectly. The kid was so mesmerized by the shoe he didn't pay any attention to the chimp.

1) The shoe can also signify another criticism of the fascination we have with a “spectacle”, things were going ape-shit (no pun intended) but of all the least important things to worry about, the shoe caught Jupe’s attention and so he settled his gaze on it, most likely thinking “how the hell is it balancing?” while his costars were being mauled. This is also done again in the diner scene when Em, OJ, and Angel are talking and a bunch of kids are fighting each other in the background. Almost like Peele was betting we’d focus on it despite it not being relevant to the plot. 2) The shoe could also have been a way create the unease in the room/scene since in real life, after a traumatic event, our eyes are alerted to our surroundings. When I got into a pretty bad car accident a few years ago, a truck hit me on the drivers side, after the crunch of the windshield and my wrist breaking, the first thing I saw during my moment of shock was my pine tree air freshener and thinking “I don’t even like how this thing fucking smells”. It’s kind of weird how the brain works like that, which could explain why many people agree that the most disturbing-and ironically also being the least scary part since it’s not really shown and is left to the imagination -part was the Gordy sequence, because it felt too…real.

Just like OJ was talking about “bad miracles” the shoe somehow standing up like that almost impossibly distracted the boy which caused him to not look the monkey in the eye probably being one of the reasons it didn’t kill him besides being quiet and somewhat already knowing him. I noticed when he died as an adult he was staring straight up at the alien/ufo. Even though not being eaten was pretty unavoidable his amazement by the creature cause him to stand there in awe not running away causing him to be eaten. So in fact “looking it in the eye” caused his demise in a sense

So this is what I have to say to people who are confused on how the monkey storyline connects with the main story of the alien/ufo. I believe it was in the flashback scene when Otis Sr was talking about the horse, Jean Jacket, and said the line “some animals can’t be tamed”. He was talking about the horses, but this message applies to both the story of Gordy, and the alien. In the Gordy scene, after the monkey has killed everyone else, he sees Ricky hiding and approaches him, reaching his hand out for a fist bump. It was a wholesome sweet moment of connection between the two, before Gordy was killed. Steven Yeun’s character grows up and runs this Jupiter’s claim business of showing the alien to his audiences by luring it out with horses to eat. The way I see it.. because Ricky had that moment with the monkey (Gordy didn’t act violent towards Ricky) Ricky may have this desire to connect with the Alien and tame in the way he could’ve with Gordy. Or maybe he thinks he is invincible (no pun intended) and can maintain peace with violent animals or something idk. But the point is the monkey and the alien are connected because Ricky’s experiences with them are very similar. Gordy and the Alien were used for entertainment, and in the end it always goes terribly wrong with people being killed by these wild animals who could not be tamed.

i don’t know why people were so confused by this scene. if you give a minute of thought it’s pretty obvious how it relates to the rest of the movie. the movie is about how people exploit animals for entertainment and how they can hit a breaking point. the alien in nope was exploited by jupiter’s claim and fought back. gordy was exploited by the show and fought back. they’re the same story but one is real and the other is sci-fi.

yes!! one of the main themes is “some animals can’t be tamed”. i think the boy connected with the monkey.. it was almost wholesome if you will. then the monkey was shot, the boy grew up, discovered this alien, and had this idea that maybe he could tame this animal and connect with it the way he almost did the monkey. but yeun’s character’s death along with the rest of his audience parallels what happened on set when he was a boy. some animals can’t be tamed.

It has a really good meaning aswell because afterwards they guy felt like he was special since he survived the attack unlike the others but the real reason he survived is because there was cloth between both the monkeys eyes and his so he didn't look at him so the monkey didn't kill him and its just like how OJ found out that if you dont look at the alien it dosent find you threatening so he wasn't special and the only reason he lived was because of cloth and thats why later he trys to tame the alien because he thought he was special enough to do it

For everyone who doesn’t know that scene was based in a true story about a family who bought a chimpanzee. The chimpanzee knew how to drive and even dress himself. But soon his parents died and the daughter was taking care of her, but then the chimpanzee got angry for some reason (I forgot) so she called her friend and he friend tried to stop the chimpanzee but all of the sudden the chimpanzee took all of his anger to her attacking her and ripping her face off and braking her nose the daughter called 911, the police shot the chimpanzee multiple times until they shot them in the head and he died. This case was in 2009 the girl is still alive to this day.

I actually agree with you that this scene was THE scariest by a good amount. For me, it was because of when you see the opening, and the chimp looks right at the camera, I thought it was just an intro clip for “Monkeypaw productions” But then, you get to that scene again, after watching the monkey violently beat the girl and older man, with blood still dripping from his mouth and paws, he looks right at the camera, and realizes the Asian kid is hiding. The walk up of the chimp and stare down from right up close is horror, it is already a very unpredictable animal, but now it has a new potential victim. The only saving grace is that you know the kid survives because he is an adult in the movie. Gave me the shivers for sure

Also most of the chimp scene was cut up and done off camera, however it is still extremely graphic and disturbing. I almost started crying the cinema. Also Ricky speaks of the incident as if he wasn’t really there ((he does later say he was there but it’s very brief and overall he still talks as if he wasn’t there)) which might be his way of dealing with the trauma.
