Every fucking movie joe derosa has seen the audience has all In sync clapped or laughed or went wild. I’ve watched every great movie since the early 90s in theaters and not once the crowd reacted other than couple chuckles here and there.

Your enjoyability of Spaceballs depends on when you saw it. I saw it in the theater when I was 9 and thought it was great. As an adult, it still has its moments, and I get a *lot* more of the humor now, but its not as good as I remembered, but but, its quotable as fuck. I also enjoyed a lot of Men in Tights, too. Maybe because I was 15 when I saw it.
