This is a great and educational video. For many decades I've been using gas appliances. Every now and then always felt light-headed. Long story behind it but with all this going on and after an episode I had with carbon monoxide poisoning... I'm switching to electricity. Yes it might be more expensive but it's much safer. I've always been a gas person until I ended up in the hospital. Fearful but educated from what happened to me and videos like these I always keep a detector a portable detector when ever I go to my friends house, family and also businesses. I see a bunch of my friends and family who don't even have a carbon monoxide tester or smoke detector, I end up buying it for them for fear something might happen to them. People need to be educated about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. People take it too lightly and think that they have proper ventilation.

If your adrenals are working properly, the body will first respond in panic mode, increased BP, pulse, to try and supply oxygen. Headaches will always come first, memory loss, dry red eyes, hazy/blurry vision and you will find yourself acting slow like a zombie, your pets behavior will also change. These are some things I went thru for months until I figured out what it was. Doctors or ER and most people know nothing about testing for CO blood levels or know the symptoms. CO exposure if very common, it may not kill you, but it will starve your body of oxygen and cause long term damage. ER will not test you for it unless you tell them specifically. Measuring oxygen levels will give a false reading showing normal levels because of the way the sensor works.

At 5:45 the video speaks to low dose-long term exposure and merely repeats the same bland propaganda so it sounds harmless. Not true. The public available CO sensors can be held over a burning trash can and not alarm There are currently available CO monitors over the internet of the type now used by fire, police, pilots, emts, etc for $100 and up. The current CO limits are set by industry. Why? because cars produce 5,000 ppm CO upon start up. The hype for hi eff gas furnaces is heavily dependent upon air movements outside, the size of the air space vented into and extracted from, the surrounding height of the landscape, the flow of air through the collection site, and direction of air movement. We went from chimney roof exhaust to almost ground level exhaust with all of the above impingements so how can that possible be an improvement? Boilers may have required specialized knowledge but the continual 'adjustments' required as yet another problem crops up with these 'hi eff' furnaces is more guess work than knowledge. I bought a house thru Rural Development inspected by authorized inspector who omitted the fact that the hi eff furnace was reversed and blew thru the cold air returns. I did not know this until I had it seen to by certified HVAC who charge me $150 to tell me it was reversed. I have had two episodes of CO poisoning one Nov 2015 and another Dec 2016 when especially cold days of zero and 10 below nights for two days caused the furnace to produce CO. 911 call and hospitalization for 2015 and self administered treatment of sleeping in room with sliding glass door for air for second 2016 exposure. Requests for assistance from Rural Development are for naught. I am 70 and live on SS income. I would not benefit from a legal todo.

You are right on. They are purposefully downplaying the long term exposure of CO from furnaces, because furnace companies do not want to be forced to get rid of their low efficiency furnaces.
