I love that she doesn’t try to do too much with tributes. I don’t know how else to say this but she does it truthfully and sincerely. As if she’s not trying to overtake the person she is paying tribute to.

There is no greater compliment to an artist for other artists to believe in their music enough to pay tribute to them. It says "your music moved me enough for me to want to be able to keep it alive in my own way"

Please listen to Bobby Darin’s live 6min plus version of this song. It really does give one goosebumps. I’m not talking about his more common studio recorded one on his album, but the long live one with unfortunately very poor sound quality. He truly made this song his own at that particular performance wherever and whenever it was.

Of course she's not Ray. This is a tribute where we reflect on the talent of the late Ray Charles by not letting his songs drift away into history. She is not singing this song to show she can do it better, but to honor and remember his work.
@obeolojumeji13 жыл бұрын
She hasn't quite come into the full Soul of Jazz and Blues but she's coming along. She has a unique hypnotic undercurrent in her voice. Don't give her such a rough time, she's working at it. Ravi's proud of her as he should be.

Sorry no pain in there and an uninspired performance. This is a song about personal pain, the type of pain you keep inside and letting it out in this song. Listen to the words. My biggest issue with people that try to play blues is that they don't feel that pain and put it in the music, that is the blues, the emotion. Either you can play the blues or not and she can't. A great singer and musician but not a blues player.

@Slivra21 I went back and listened and you are indeed correct. It's a whole tone up. Either way I agree that, while she did a good job, it's not the best tribute nor is it my favorite of Norah's.
@musicalala17 жыл бұрын
Norah has a strong preference for slower tempos. She will never be everyones' cup of tea for that reason. I personally like her. Her music suits her personality and is honest. Vocal range isn't everything.If technique was all important people would never have given the Beatles a second listen. They're far from technically brilliant.
