I like these investment success series. Maybe an idea for a future series would be biggest investment failures by some of the investment greats. A 30x company is a great find, but not buying something that kills your return is equally important.

Great idea :)

Good idea! Failures are almost more important I think for learning than successes, which can reinforce bad habits if you didn't do enough due diligence but got a little lucky anyway. I've really been trying to research more and invert recently after a period of excellent successes, to make sure I do not become overconfident, and a failures/lessons series from the greats would be awesome for teaching some of us younger investors caution. :)

Bill Ackman, Mohnish Pabrai, Guy Spier or Cathie Wood (only joking about the last one)

Dream Finders Homes (DFH) is a small cap homebuilder which seems very undervalued (homebuilder market is "hated" by Mr. Market) with good fundamentals and they talk about NVR often in their investor presentations.

Nice find. After one year DFH has tripled!

Great video and series as always Tom, thanks for teaching us lessons from the past :) Some investors I am interested in learning about their investments are: Terry smith and Seth Klarman. Btw what is the resource you are taking your multiple info from (p/e, p/b, etc.) ?

Had to merge a few sources to go back that far, but Simply Wall St and Tikr I use pretty regularly. Tikr has the longest history

Would love to know more about Rick Guerin. Its interesting to know how someone would loose to leverage even when they have friends like Warren and Charlie.

His New Invest is SWBI which seems like a great investment because of great upside whereas very limited downside because it's debt free and market value is almost equal to tangible book value (at $8.65 when I bought and it's $10 now). What do u think about SWBI?

you said she is a millionaire from a $20,000 investment in NVR. NVR did a 30x. that's $600,000k. after taxes she has ~$500k. what gives?

Great video Tom. Have you looked into the current Countryside Partnerships opportunity which seems to have some similarities to 1990s NVR? Worth a look if you haven't come across this.
@InvestingwithTom Жыл бұрын
Yup, they’ve just been acquired!

Countryside Partnership was going to focus on their similar light business model as NVR and do a lot of share buyback with the sale of the heavy side of the business model (around 30% of shares at current prices) but the thesis changed --> they had problems searching for a new CEO after the proxy battle with the last management and were bough buy Vistry PLC (some money but mostly used share for the buy)

Interesting - it's been a few months since I came across this and wasn't aware of the updates. Thanks both.
