You buy the Nord 3P for its sound quality and drum synthesis. Nords are legendary for their VA sound, and real-time modelling. Some of the phatest sounds on the records you've heard throught the years are coming from Nords. If you haven't directly heard or used this one, before buying anything else, try it. If you want new sounds of your own, musical and inspiring on every hit, then this one will deliver. Very underrated and surprisingly not widely known about.

True. As a percussion pad it is very limited compared to the spd sx pro or dtx multi 12. Sometimes limitations are a good thing.

I tried replacing my Nord Drum 3P with a Roland TR-09 and sold the Roland as it was a one trick pony and only does that one kind of sound. I also got an Erica Synth LXR-02 because I liked the faders ... and sold it too as it was too much menu diving and twisting the Nord Drum's settings is way more intuitive and there's one knob per function. So I'm keeping my Nord Drum 3P - and I'm adding faders via MIDI with an AtoVproject 16N. The Nord Drum is the best sounding synth drum I ever had, period.

Someone recommended this pad to me. Thanks so much for your no BS video really explaining in depth its capabilities and limitations, potential dealbreakers! I think I am gonna get it, I am missing something to compliment my loopstation in a live DAWless setting, my beatbox sound is not good enough (yet?) to compliment my vocal harmony.

as a synth guy and also an acoustic drummer and Edrum player, this thing realy shine when i play that with wood stick and you have influence on the dynamic of the playing, sampling is okay but it's realy the only synth drum on the market that are drummer oriented and sound like a Simmons on steroid . this thing have definitly a place arround my Roland TM 6 pro and my drum, using a drum machine or sequencer with midi is also a huge plus.

Hey! They fall under the group of "sampling pads", which is what I mention in the beginning of the video as THE major difference you need to understand. Unfortunately there is no new version of The Nord Drum until now.

Hi Jannis, thx for the great video. I have a question. As I am considering to buy drum 3P (now in 2024) to use for live looping, I did some research and checked reviews (also come across your chanel) and I found a potential issue with it on which a lot of people complain and that is strange HISS coming out in case of using headphones connected directly or when using reverb...have you noticed or come across this issue? many thanks my man...be your soul blessed :-) PS: I know only people having the HISS issue would write on the forums , not the happy owners. and It also might be issue with ground noise etc. but why would so many people complaining about it not realize it? cheers

Hey! Thanks first of all for the warm words :) The headphone channel doesn't sound great, I surely agree with that. And yes, the Decay of the Reverb can sound a bit weird, and when you listen closely you hear the hiss. Those aren't dealbreakers for me though. I prefer to use plugins for reverb anyways, since I like to see what works best in a mix, and the internal reverb doesn't sound as great as I would say "I really need that sound". And the last time I used the headphone output was possibly in 2021, haha, so I always use it through my interface, therefore don't care about its sound quality. But maybe for you it's different. I'd also say that, for live situations and mixed with other instruments, you can use the internal reverb and nobody will notice any hiss. Hope it helps :)

Hey, there, Jannis. Love your channel. Would you say that the pads are sensitive enough for playing with hands and fingertips only?
@JannisLeWolff
@JannisLeWolff 7 ай бұрын
Hey, thank you 💚 Honestly I haven't explored the hand mode that much. I know that Toskabyss made a video about that lately that you may want to check out. Otherwise I think it's a quite personal thing, since everybody has some own definition and expectation of sensitivity. I'd say if you can try it somewhere you should!

@@JannisLeWolff I haven't checked his specific video on that but I will. I didn't realize that he had done that particular video and asked him about playing by hand in connection with a different video of his, and he said that it's quite doable but just a bit hard on the fingertips.👍

how to make sequences and lopps that you then play over? I am too new to electronic music to understand this, but I get very excited by this synth drum... I only played acoustic drum sets do you have a video or is it possible you cold make a video with a complete list of what other things you need to record and play live. make loops, connect to a DAE, sound card maybe? and now you set up adn connect it practically, like break down your equipment with lopp pedals, kick and cables and what sound speaker might work best for the Nord? like a really practival video from showing all you need, cables , tripod, bags, until a complete live show set up is ready for you to play by... that would be really a cool guidelines to look into and understand the workflow and how to make it work in reality when on is new to all this... thanks for getting back and hope I make sense, English is not my mother tongue so sometimes I write too long... thanks from Sweden!

Wish they would have had knobs instead of buttons. its kind of annoying. but not too bad. Other than the fact that ive sent mine to nord 3 times for faulty pad connections, this unit is unfortunately the only thing on the market like it so I keep it. I wish Nord or another company would come along and turn this into a unit with eveything us users have been asking for. -USB Midi -Knobs instead of buttons -External outs for all pads -Dedicated bass drum out -Larger LCD display - Different mounting for pads. (vibrations trigger the pads unless sensitivity is maxed out. good luck then playing it live.) There is more that i cant think of right now.

I hear you! I still believe that it's a super cool instrument, but apparently I was also lucky that I got a sturdy unit without any faults. I also think that at least one competing product of the same kind would be healthy for Nord to consider releasing a more contemporary version, since at the moment there is basically no competition and no reason to upgrade anything.

Mostly agree, except for the moment with the editor, even the one from Ableton Drummer is pure nightmare in setup for casual user as me. Midi implementation is ancient as mammoth shit, but the sound, the design and the user interface is brilliant, so it's definitely an instrument with huge pros and cons
@tonynewton6490

In what way is the MIDI implementation ‘ancient as mammoth shiit’? It’s super controllable via midi with every parameter available as a CC.
@a65urd
@a65urd 11 ай бұрын
@@tonynewton6490 I mean there's no usb midi, and connection by 5 pin midi have one way direction, or something. My main claim to connection through midi is impossibility to use paid editors, both in vst and M4L formats. There's something in settings in DAW that is missed in tutorials, so as i said before casual user like me can't just use it
@tonynewton6490
@tonynewton6490 11 ай бұрын
@@a65urdI don’t follow you. It doesn’t use midi over USB but that doesn’t alter its midi implementation. MIDI via DIN is no different. I’ve used a couple of commercial editors for it, as well as creating my own and it’s actually got a really nice implementation that’s very flexible. But you do have to have a working knowledge of midi - and no disrespect- I find a lot of people don’t have that these days. I’ve been using midi since day one, and understand it well. When you say that something is missing in tutorials it sounds like you are talking about the DAW, Not the 3p. Admittedly it can be awkward to use with a daw because most Daws don’t deal with multi Timbral instruments using multiple midi channels well so setup can be a little confusing. But that’s not the fault of the 3p. 🙂
@JannisLeWolff
@JannisLeWolff 11 ай бұрын
Hmm...thanks first of all for sharing your thoughts! If its about the USB you could consider using a midi to USB cable- I have one for some situations and it's super simple to use and in the end feels like using a USB cable. And what do you exactly mean about the settings missing in a DAW? I always found that connecting The Nord Drum with a DAW just works as with any other controller, with the difference that you don't have a control preset or template and basically have a "manual" mode all the time.
@a65urd
@a65urd 11 ай бұрын
@@tonynewton6490 I know that it's my factor first, cause i'm plug'n'play guy and thats true that a lot of people these days doesn't spend appropriate time on manuals. So i prefer more simple units without a deep menu diving and this is why the 3P completely suits me with its architecture and engine. But i'm not a drummer, so for me it's for like a desktop synth with needs of sounddesign and quick preset management. I had naive hopes that the editors will allow me to organize more adequate work with presets and banks, but it seems like it's to complicated to implement. I think i was trying to express that though about "multi Timbral instruments using multiple midi channels" but failed it cause of my english and tech skills) Anyway i really like my unit and happy that i have access for such a cool sound engine
