First saw these keyboards in a music shop and was attracted straight away by the design, they stood out amongst all the other dull looking keyboards. Lovin this video, something so laid back and casual about it, purchased an electro 5D yesterday, for controller with DAW and stage instrument. I think we can do something with this, we did consider the Motif xf 6 but music creation quality can only be as good as the samples. The great thing about Nord is that custom samples can be added as can be with the yamaha but I like the build of the Nord and they have an excellent library of samples free to download. Nice video thank you for sharing.

People lament about how authentic Mellotrons (with fragile and archaic tape loop array) should be made again instead of using “cold” digital samplers. The average person can’t tell the difference. People bashed digital CD’s when they first came out. But with todays frequency and dynamic range, and with anti-aliasing and dithering circuitry, most people would only be able to tell the difference in a side-by-side comparison with vinyl if the record had scratches in it. Is that what “authentic” is all about? I’m not saying let’s forget about history. I’m saying let’s appreciate these complicated and costly historical artifacts for what they are and move on.
@Itapirkanmaa25 жыл бұрын
The Mellotron did not have a loop but a single strip of tape. If you pressed a key long enough, the sound ran out.

That feel when you live in a country like New Zealand, and they add and extra +$3000 to any Moog/Nord instrument... I don't want to pay $7000 for a $4000 keyboard :( I wish Nord/Moog sold them directly instead of through vendors. The rockshop in New Zealand (only licenesed vendor) is a fucking robbery!

and people complain about Nords being expensive here in the "states" I live 150 miles from the "Moog factory" (which isn't really Moog any more since the old man died 13 years ago,) and I wouldn't take a Moog if there were free since I enjoy playing chords. but if you want real, affordable analog - check out synthesizers.com. they have some neat looking stuff and it's reasonably priced.

So are Ford cars no longer “Fords”? Are Fender guitars no longer “Fenders”? Are Steinway pianos no longer “Steinways”?
@chieftp7 жыл бұрын
well yes, and no. comparing a mass produced car of which they've made millions which was owned by stockholders over a period of 100+ years to a small musical instrument manufacturer which made their most celebrated, collectible and valuable products years ago in a short time period when they were owned and ran by their original founders is not really a valid comparison. is a Hammond organ still a Hammond organ? I think most any reasonable person would say no.
@JohnnyFriendly5 ай бұрын
@@chieftp Although you are right in rejecting his analogy, what makes a Moog a Moog is the design and the sound. If Moog can achieve this today and retain the quality of the original ones then it doesn't really matter who owns the company

Yes, you can load the Mellotron sample and split the keyboard. Change the octave on your left hand (it doesn’t affect the pitch). On your right hand you can play a piano or an organ sound. You can’t load two samples on the Electro., but a Mellotron rhythm and a B3 would do the trick.

I see where it says what keyboards the download is compatible with, but I’m asking anyway, will this work with the electro 5D ???
@kevinlewis10173 жыл бұрын
Ok the Sounds are spot on but can it duplicate the mellotron tape head "attack" sound when you hit the keys hard? That's one of the things these samplers miss, the real mellotrons faults are the hidden gems of the sound. For the money Nord charges for these they should have figured it out. Just saying

there's a button on the top left of the window that says "download sound" or similar. Select the file you downloaded and wait for a few min! You may need to delete a sound already on the keyboard to make space for the new sample (just click the sound and press delete)

Doesn't really have that Mellotron vibe. Very sterile sounding. If the samples came from Sweden (and they sound like they did), they are tape recorder to digital instead of Mellotron to digital, so the magic created by the Mellotron's electronics is missing. A better and more accurate choice would be M-Tron Pro with the Streetly Tapes for software or a Memotron with the Streetly 50th Anniversary Collection for hardware.
