I had a Stage 2 once and the vast controls and busy-ness of the keyboard was intimidating. I ended up only playing with the pianos. I really wasted my money on that one, but I sold it to a coworker and bought myself a Nord Piano 5. That is a much simpler keyboard to use, and I love it so much, I got so acclimated with the controls, creating my own layers, sounds, adding Fx, Split points, reverb etc....and when I watch these Stage 4 tutorials everything makes so much sense! Now I want to switch back to a Stage 4--because of how much more you can do than the Piano 5. I totally understand how the synth controls work now, having played with some simple synths and sine wavs--learning about oscillators, filters, cutoffs, LFO's.

BTW, Douglas, the NS4 88 unexpectedly arrived yesterday! They had been saying summer, or possibly end of June so this was a really great surprise. This video and your previous one have been very useful for helping me to understand and get up to speed with my first Nord 🙂

Douglas, can tell us a little bit about how you learned to play the piano so well? I know there is a natural talent component. However, I'm wondering about the overall process. When you started and what you went through to become as good as you are today. Great video man!

7:24 here you want to lower the volume of the synth but it first snaps into a higher volume position because the phsical fader is higher than the digital fader. Is there a way to don't allow such discontinuous snaps? Such that tweaking the fader has no effect until you pass the digital position?

Hey thanks for this deep dive! Any bug worths to highlight? For instance, it is working correctly when controlled by an external midi keyboard or from a DAW? This is a key point for me…

No bugs so far, but I haven’t plugged it in to control externally, so I can’t speak to that part yet!

you’re in your own Nord head. How about, how do I save a preset after I chosen the programs I want? I’ve lived through every variation of patches, tones, multis, combos and all variations. Having never owned or played a Nord, you need to go back to 30,000ft. What is the hierarchy?
@M_E_T_R_O__99 ай бұрын
also whats the scene switch button for? does that give another whole fresh layer you can switch to on a program?
@DSoundman9 ай бұрын
The Layer Scene II button allows you to have a second variation of your program. The variations can be combinations of different layers. For example, Piano Layer A and Synth Layer A & B enabled on Variation 1 and then Piano Layer B and Synth Layer A, B, & C enabled on variation 2.

does the 4 still have "pending load" so i can cue up another sound and then switch to it when im ready? So say for example im already playing and the band want to go straight into another track, how do i cue that on the fly so i can jump straight to it? thanks
@DSoundman9 ай бұрын
No need for pending load. You can switch between programs instantly anytime you wish with no load time!

I think there is 512 program slots. How many preset slots are there?
@DSoundman Жыл бұрын
You're corrrect, there are 512 Program slots (8 banks, each containing 8 pages that can have 8 programs each). The Preset Library has 2 banks x 64 Organ Preset locations each, 2 banks x 64 Piano Preset locations each and 8 banks x 64 Synth Preset locations each. Hopefully that makes sense! :-)

These companies going to go bonkers. I hope they pay the workers more than minimum wages.
@theclaverman Жыл бұрын
Why do you think that?? Remember, the Nord keyboards are hand-made in Sweden by Clavia, which is a really small company. Nords are selling like hot chocolate and I therefore see no reason to suspect Clavia for not paying their workers pretty well….
@connor_flanigan Жыл бұрын
average workers in the Scandinavian countries make a good wage. a lot of the cost is the markup from the distributor in the USA, which has a monopoly, plus the markup from the dealer.
@theclaverman Жыл бұрын

The Stage 4 is nice…but I don’t know if I’m down to pay 7k for a board again I’m just going software at this point. Cheaper and sounds better for literally half the cost of this
@theclaverman Жыл бұрын
@@tuneunleashed You literaly show up in every Nord thread, complaining about that software is way better and Nords are too expensive. (It’s actually a little peculiar, since you so strongly seems to dislike Nord) Here’s what I think really is happening: You really want the Nord, but you can’t afford it!(what about that). When it comes to your babbling about software vs hardware. Listen…..I got the Nord Stage 3 and the Prophet 6, which is my weapons for gigging. But I also own a MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max, several midikeyboards and have installed softwares like keyscape, omnisphere, kontakt, mainstage and much more….And it’s all excellent, I use it in my studio all the time. So why in the whole world wouldn’t I then use software and a laptop instead for live playing, when software clearly sounds better than the Nord(and no argue, IT DOES!)Here is my answer: RELIABILITY! Even in the year 2023 programs like mainstage are WAY to unreliable for me to be used on serious productions. And I have really tried to like it, but it just has way to many flaws, and the very last thing you want during a TV-show is a serious MIDI-freeze on your system. My second argument is that I find software to be just extremely uninspirational to use compare to hardware. For me the the overall feeling an instrument gives is important as what we do for a living is no joke. Third: While software based rigs are extremely powerful, they fail miserably in the intuitivity department(and I only talkin live gigging now, not studio or anything else). When the artist asks for another reverb on that piano, and a brighter pad, I can literally fix this with the touch of a button on my Nord, while on the software rig, you’ll need to find the mouse, open yet another plugin, then…..And this is also a serious creativity killer, for one thing I love about the Nord is that you can change things on the fly. If you suddenly wants to open up the high pass filter on one of the synth parts, I can do so while playing. Good luck to do that with software (if it isn’t pre-programmed and mapped on the midi-board beforehand).

Way over priced hype. Sounds good but $6000. Wtf.
@fragu123 Жыл бұрын
…that’s maybe 1.5K$ more than competition. Considering higher resale values from Nord, you might get back up to half of it after 4 to 5 years of usage. So what’s potentially left is 750$ in 5 years, which 12,50$ a month. 🤔. I couldn’t care less and instead getting the best sound(s), the best user interface and operation and for sure some jealousy based on „wtf comments“ like yours…🤷🏻♀️
