This is absolutely wonderful to see what goes into these boats. Absolutely amazing seeing a disregard for the need to save weight for someone who is used to planing launches. Seeing these vast boats with the ultra reliable simple John Deere is just wonderful - Nordhavn - Your boats are exactly in the right spot. Practical for using in the real world. Now if only I had the cash to have one.

1. What was your analysis in choosing Deere over Luggar? 2. Why 60' over 55' (besides the obvious)? 3. Can a 60' be maintained and sailed with 2 people? 5. Do they outfit the electronics, engine, et al in China? If you have a blog, let us know. Thanks...

Yep the extra room is fantastic makes the boat feel twice as big. Our plan is to head down to Mexico for a few months then up to Alaska for the summer, then we'll see.

I don't care who built this boat it's a work of art ! On the subject about building boats the Chinese are world renowned boat builders as far back as time goes, they might crank out a lot of junk in other areas but when these guys build a boat it's going to be sea worthy all day long.
@rickmacclure12 жыл бұрын
John Deere is the standard engine on these boats and I have travel around 9,000nm on a N55 with a JD and never a hiccup? N60 over a N55 bigger cockpit thats where we spend most of our time is outside the boat. Yes a N60 is a perfect size for just two people any bigger it starts to get harder (I believe anyway). All the engines and generators are fitted in China, Electronics they pull through the wires/cables etc and fit monitors. Can't put blog on this page.

@divisioneight11 жыл бұрын
Nordhaven's are made to a tight standard and regardless who actually puts the parts together and where, they are still high quality boats. Grand Banks, Marine Trader's are also made overseas. If this is an issue, ask why they aren't made here. Perhaps in Nordhaven's world, they sell to all four corners of the globe and China's central to their customers. Taxes and regulations in American killed ship / boat building of this scale so ask yourself who you voted for President in 2012 and why.

Its ok to not like something but just say that. When you start to make things up to justify a point then you start to sound ignorant. I care less where a Nord. Is built, it obviously works and like or not if you cant see the quality and near genius of these designs then you dont know boats. I love them and wont be happy till i have one. I was born on the water and they make perfect sense to me and the work ethic of those building isnt overlooked here.

Hit a container in the middle of the Atlantic , steel is the only way to go on a vessel of this type and design.
@rickmacclure10 жыл бұрын
Yep your quite correct steel is the way to go that way in can sit on the bottom of the Atlantic like that other steel boat, I think they called it The Titanic.
@bobbyjohnnascar10 жыл бұрын
Rick MacClure I do not plan on running "full steam ahead" between ice bergs. Most commercial / research / expeditionary / ocean crossing type vessels are made of steel.This is done for strength and safety.
@rickmacclure10 жыл бұрын
Bobby John Yes Bobby as I do not plan on running "full stream ahead" into a container but things happen and the way in which Nordhavns are constructed I would bet on their hulls safety over a steel boat of this size any day. I have seen first hand what little damage is done when a Nordhavn strikes something solid and its not much. Yes most commercial vessels etc are made of steel this is not due to strength but for ease and practicality of construction and in hand with that comes construction costs for vessels of that size. Just on an ending note this is not a forum for discussion on the pro's and con's of boat building rather a site for appreciation of what the video has to offer, there are plenty of forums out there if that is what you wish to debate. As my mother alway taught me "if you don't have anything nice to say about someone or something then don't say anything at all" its a shame we don't teach those values any more.

Plywood? Not real wood? But then, no complain, this is nordhavn
@domonicoregan4258 жыл бұрын
the main advantage to manufacturing in ply is weight and cost saving, however im sure they would let the owners spec it in what ever they wished.
@Purlee1007 жыл бұрын
Yes Plywood, much lighter, infinitely stronger, more flexible, far more dimensionally stable and far more environmentally friendly.
@spacecoasttactical5 жыл бұрын
"Plywood? Not real wood?" And just what do you think plywood is made from? Marine ply is lighter, stronger and more durable than raw wood for a lot of applications

A beautiful yacht for sure. Love the design but dislike all the red colored wood. It makes the boat seem old and dated. You could take out 90% of it and it would still have too much.

radbcc What choice do we have? All Wall Street cares about is THEIR profits,not the well being of the American economy. We need more and better manufacturing jobs in America! Before Bill Clinton kicked the door open to China we still made things HERE.

How sad that the manufacturer has shipped the jobs to China. I don't think my conscience would let me own a boat at the expense of American workers. I just couldn't enjoy it knowing that the American craftsmen who could have built my boat are sleeping under bridges while Chinese workers get to feed their families.
@spacecoasttactical5 жыл бұрын
Apart from the fact it was a democrat administration that killed pleasure boat building in the the U.S., would that be the same American workers that build Chrysler and Jeep - the most unreliable cars on the road?
