Welcome back how are you beautiful people how are you all on this glorious day ? Looking back it's been three years and I think I've only done 3 or 4 melts of slag which I certainly did not realise it was that far between so why not clear a bit of stuff off the shelves melt it down and add it to the stack. Some pretty ugly bars but always a welcome addition at all times. So sit back relax and enjoy today's video and I hope you have a great weekend and with any luck you will tune in again next Friday👊🏻😁.

Hey, BigStackD, I'm surprised you didn't install an exhaust hood in the roof of your new shed and build a melt station for your furnaces underneath it. That way you could still do melts inside when its raining outside and vent the fumes out the exhause hood! Either way, another great video! 😀👍

It is weird watching in Canada as the seasons are opposite. Saying it’s the first day of winter for you, and the start of summer for me. Cold there, hot here. Although I might say the temperature would be the same. Hint, if it’s rain, it’s not cold. If it was cold, it would be snow.
@TG-su8fd Жыл бұрын
@@chrisgoater5616 if it was cold for me it would be ice shards piercing your skin because yes that happens sometimes here in finland iv literally gone outside come home and hand scratches all over my face almost blood because of how fast the icy snow flakes move

I'm amazed at how much slag and ash you get when melting brass. I get a ton even when melting clear brass casings.
@196Stefan2 Жыл бұрын
It's mostly Zinc Oxyde (white when cold, yellow when hot). Zinc starts burning on air, when heated far beyond it's melting point of ca. 440 °C. It also has a relatively low boiling temperature. Some escapes as fine dust, but the major part remains floating on the molten metal. The grey colour of the slag comes from Copper Oxyde, which is black.

How happy your boys were when I gave them meat. I loved the final part with that copper bar, no need to cast anything, just cut to size, sand, polish, stamp and polish and you're done. Happy winter... what a terrific device to preheat molds using exhaust furnace heat.! Great addition to your toolset. In a past video you mentioned needing to capture roof runoff, have you considered recycling a gently used IBC tote. They come with a nice metal cage and a valve shutoff. Speaking of cages, perhaps it’s time to fashion cages around your fruit trees to protect them from the parrots and other predators. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace brother.

Get a ball mill crusher and crush the slag into powder. Then you can immerse it in water to separate the water solubles from the metals. There's a bunch of other cleaning methods you can try. Once your have it in powder form it's easier to store also.

Crazy idea for you, next time a crucible needs retiring do a slag melt in it then set the whole thing on ice to watch it break up with the melt in it to see what becomes of it. When you get your next furnace have them spell the name Big Snack D then with no fanfare use it in the middle of the melting day then switch it back to the original and see what kind of crazy stuff people say. Love the gags of you finding food in all manner of places throughout your shop, quick thought: When you go to put your boots back on find an unexpected snack in there. 🤣
