This song always sounds like the most bittersweet song choice Titanics band made that night, it feels so happy yet so mournful, like it’s being played at a funeral.

Hi! Didn't know there where lyrics. In my sheet there isn´t any. Howeever found this german text in a library :-) Text: Louis Taufstein The lyrics seems to start first at 02:06 02:06 Schlaf sinkt nieder, Schlisst mir die Lieder Bienchen schaukelt sich im Raum. Nota Bene! This following part (2) is the same melody as from 04:43 (1) but I don´t play that repeat in video. (2.

@@NordicKeys I gotta say: I'm a little surprised at the fact that this piece of music has lyrics. I honestly can't tell if they would improve it or not. Though admittedly - after translating them from Bratwurst-speak to English - they do match the tone and atmosphere of the music quite well.

The reasons of which I love this song, its the mystery. No-one remembers the lyrics and the people that did have all died, the lyrics were known to have fit in perfectly and without the waltz' lyrics seems sad hopeless and for even the people that don't know its history, it makes them feel sad. meanwhile, with lyrics, it was known as being incredibly jolly, and was also the last song performed while the Titanic sank. another reason is that its a song my grandfather would play often and I have also heard my father play it often (this time with a CD) in the mornings, and something about it simply just makes me cry without its beloved lyrics..

sorry about my scatterbrained comment, I tend to forget what I am thinking mid-sentence, it also doesn't help that I have incredibly bad short term memory, sorry about my nonsensical comments as I tend to forget what I am writing/reading mid-sentence so it's hard for me to correct what I wrote later on.

No not last second last, Frederick Hoyt: “When the last boat was going off the side, the ship’s band was playing Alexander’s Ragtime Band. They may have been playing Nearer my God to Thee when the ship went down, but they were playing the ragtime air when the last boat left the side.” - Boat D. Albert Horswill: “Just before the ship cracked in two, I could hear the band playing Nearer my God to Thee, and the yelling I heard I never want to hear again.” - Boat 1 Anna McGowan: “They just kept playing Nearer my God to Thee. Then the ship just busted in half, and that's when all the screaming started.” - Boat 13 Helen Candee: “The beaten bow was hidden underwater, the only uncovered stretch of deck sloped high toward the stern, and on this diminished point huddled a close pack, who awaited death with the transcendent courage and order and quiet that had been theirs for the horrible two hours. And over them trembled the last strains of the orchestra's message: Autumn first, then Nearer my God to Thee.” - Boat 6 "Autumn first, then Nearer my God to Thee.”.....
