Can i use Nord-lock washer where i am using 10.9 class or 12.9 class bolts ( M16 bolts -structural joint in farm equipment)? Since these bolts are hard, weather Nord-lock washer create impression marks on those hard bolt surfaces?

Yes you can. Just follow their instructions regarding tightening torque.

I have a nut on apiece of thread rod with a washer against unistrut and on other side of uni strut same thing...should i have used a lock washer here... my boss said cause we have nut against nut so to say...that it doesnt apply here?its hanging off ceiling from crows foot thats locing thread rod in it with a nut... sorry for the bad wordage... but its unistrut holding up water lines 2 inch

If the mating surface is carbon steel, then the Nord-Lock washer should also be steel. The Nord-Lock washers must be harder than the mating surface and the fasteners for them to be able to secure the bolted joint. The minimum hardness of the steel Nord-Lock washers is 465 HV.

Is it good for a steel-rubber joint?

If you are talking about placing the Nord-Lock washer against a rubber surface, then it is not recommended and will properly not work. The rubber is usually too soft for the washers to make the impression marks in. If it is a rubber ring or gasket or similar which is clamped between two metal plates and the Nord-Lock washers are between the bolt or nut and the metal plates, then it will properly work fine. But it does depend on the preload that can be achieved in the joint and it has to be high enough for the washers to make the impression marks. It also depends on how large the loss in preload is over time due to settlement in the bolted joint.

Yes, they will work if it is steel against steel all the way through the bolted joint. If you have other types of materials please contact your local Nord-Lock office. The grade 12.9 bolt is not a problem for the steel Nord-Lock washers. It is a coarse threaded bolt, so the thread pitch is not an issue either. What could be an issue is if the temperature is above 200 degrees Celsius. If the temperature gets too high in the bolt then the yield strength of the bolt starts to become lower and that means there could be a risk that the bolt will exceed the yield strength. Will Nord--Lock X Lock washers work correctly with a compressible gasket between the hard surfaces ?

The Nord-Lock X-series washer will work fine if the gasket is between the two clamped parts and if the achieved preload is high enough that the washers can make the impression marks. If the clamp length is short then they should make sure that keep a level of preload even when they lose preload due to relaxation of the gasket, if that is an issue.

Yes sir, I’ve used them many times on stainless, it’s softer than carbon, but not so soft as plastic for example.

@@AfdhalAtiffTan No, he's talking about compression of the joint materials. If the joint materials compress to the point that the washer doesn't have enough load on it, the washer will not work.
