It's great seeing the 90s drivers who wouldn't have had the benefit of doing 500 laps round here on an Xbox before driving it for real. On the plus side they all have about 120bhp and skinny, hard tyres so when they lose control they're going so slowly they don't seem to hit anything. Nowadays everyone has twice the power and loads of grip and when you lose control in 2019, most of the time you're going so fast, it's straight into the barrier usually.
@Kaisersoze20063 жыл бұрын
Right! The major danger for a car in that years were to turn upside down. Instead for motorbike the danger is more or less the same
@Kaisersoze20063 жыл бұрын
And also even if speed is not fast as today, everybody went out due to the totally wrong line they followed. Somebody should go back in time and told them to keep line wide as much as possible before turning left
@vermillion.__-_.3 жыл бұрын
So true 😂😂😂
@kaisersoymilk69123 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking: even though those cars were less safe, they were also slower and with no stability control whatsoever, so they'd spin at the first error instead of keeping you on the road until you've picked up enough speed that the laws of physics will inevitably put you against the barriers.

In the early 2000s I did maybe 150 laps on the Nordschleife in a 400 plus hp Nissan Twin Turbo. Before going there I got me a book describing the entire track in detail, kilometer by kilometer. Every curve, straight and chicane were described along with racers advice which line to take and how slow or fast to go where. Even after those 150 laps i did not really know this track and drove on it concentrated to the utmost, trying to have in mind the details I had read about. Towards the end I managed to do laps in 9:10 to 9:20 minutes and never ever spun out as I always left a tiny margin of safety reserve. Many tourists take things too serious and many have ruined their and others health and finances going like idiots. Your insurance will not compensate for anything there and you are being noticed at the entrance, that officially you are bliged to go at 50 Km/h there. It all is at your own full risk. Crazy in fact. Hans Joachim Stuck, who did thousands of laps there in pactice and racing once said, that you will never know this track totally as its length of 20+ Kms and the number of curves make this practically impossible, especially as weather can turn conditions dramatically. The Ring was not called green hell for no reason.

yes they were! So much more grip on modern stuff for sure thank god. Shame we still see people who don't know better using "Wan Li ditch finders" or the like. Chinese tyres must account for a large proportion of accidents in the wet I'd guess.

Not necessarily the tires, incorrect lines and lifting the throttle mid corner can get you in trouble the same way

After watching so many of these vids from like 2017-2019, it was weird seeing so many unfamiliar cars in the 1994 segments. Then the E36's started showing up, and all felt right again :)

It's interesting to see how cars without assists look difficult while modern cars basically do everything for you and they make the drivers seem like champs.
@ville852 жыл бұрын
Well shock absorbers and tires have come a long way since the 90's. Most of those spinning, sliding and jumping cars perform much much better with todays sport suspension setups and semislick tires as you can still see them sometimes driving around Nurburgring. Even the stock road tires today would have better traction and handling.

+Rocks Reynolds And cars have more advanced systems to help the driver when he messes up. In the clips from later years you can see it quite clearly. Some of the newer cars make it out of stuff they wouldn't have without all the help from technology.
