That was worth watching. A lot of people are intimidated by single engine shaft drive. You made it look easy.

Single shaft and no thrusters here too….newbies now in a marina after a year on a river mooring. Really daunting manoeuvring around the marina, just instinctively feel like I’m right on top of other boats. Such a strange illusion. That was so good to watch …I was mimicking these controls as though I was on ours……still got to get the feel of how she handles, hopefully when weather permits, I can get more practice in and be as good as this guy.😅

Yep. What most people don’t understand is that it takes short high bursts of power to kick the boat around then a reduction of power to maintain the heading. Great job.

I was a little confused coming from an i/o boat as to the reverse bump without spinning the wheel, but realizes from you other video that reverse, because of the counter clockwise rotation of the prop and no wash across the rudder, pulls the boat to starboard.. now i get it!
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle 3 ай бұрын
Yes, reverse is a bit tricky and not a lot of control, but once you figure out what works with your boat it can be very useful in operating it

You’ll love a bow thruster though- where I boat in the PNW, I have to account for currents and wind, so I love my bow and stern thrusters. This is a great video, thanks!

the Grand Banks has a 4 foot keel, when you do a turn into the current it can grab that keel like a sail and take you sideways quite a few feet, you have to be ready for it and compensate for it, it will happen real quick, especially a u turn on the Detroit river or where there is a strong current ..that bigass keel is a reason to put out a sea anchor too if you want to sit and fish unanchored so the current don't grab the keel and take you on a sideways ride at times

Definitely easier without wind and current but the theory was demonstrated. How come no mention of prop walk to explain the physics of it? I have a GB32 and when in reverse the stern will "walk" to starboard making counterclockwise turns very easy. I noticed that all turns in this vid were counterclockwise. Try making the same maneuvers in the clockwise direction. Very difficult especially when you have an adverse wind blowing the bow down.

Works fine when not a scrap of wind is blowing. What do you do with ten knots from any direction?
@NoRegretsLifestyle
@NoRegretsLifestyle 9 ай бұрын
That’s not true but what ever you think. You cannot operate a single screw without using these moves in wind. It takes lots of practice and not easy to learn. Thanks for watching and God Bless

So that boat backs to starboard, which works great for his slip setup. I noted you had him using the rudder when in reverse. Does that boat respond to the rudder when in reverse?

If this were a left handed prop, what would the move be for backing out of this exact slip? Would you just back all the way out the fairway?
@NoRegretsLifestyle

Well it depends in a GB 36 I would Turn it like I did that one. Prop wash is an effect but it’s not a huge factor. Every boat is different. But I would not change on a single GB 36
