Thank you sir, for sacrificing your thumb to show us how this is done. After ordering the significantly-more expensive “prestige” 9886 model “space grade steel” model - I immediately looked up if there was a replacement battery - and how to open the older 1280x I have had for 10 years at the time of this posting!! The newer models are trash. The feel is so plasticky and well - I’ve yet to try it out, but after reading reviews post-purchase… I’m not entirely convinced it’ll even shave as well - because of the new, stupid-shaped head. The 1280x just feels more premium, and the head had tighter clearance for better shaving.

Thank you Ken, your video was very helpful disassembling the shaver. My shaver would not charge anymore because I left it unplugged for a few days. However, I found a fix by recharging the battery with a 9 volt battery. I disassembled per your video but instead of replacing the battery I clipped some leads from a 9 volt battery to each end of the Norelco battery observing the correct polarity and held them in place for about 5 minutes. I then checked the Norelco battery and it showed 3.4 volts whereas before it was zero. Reassembled and it started charging. After 20 minutes charge it worked as normal. I don’t know how long it will last so if it happens again I will go for a new battery.
