A lot has changed for 611 since 1982 both in excursion service and popularity.

You know, that whistle seriously doesn't sound bad. Is it the original whistle to the 611? I believe I heard that the whistle it had on it for its last runs (like at least 92-94) was from the 600? and was Robert Claytor's whistle. When they restored it in 2015 and put "Spirit Of Roanoke" on the side I heard Preston Claytor didn't like it and told them they couldn't use his whistle, so they changed it to a UP FEF whistle for one year and then acquired the whistle from the 610 to put on it.

Why did the Norfolk and Western 611 work the railroad night shift and the railroad day shift to pull the North American Norfolk and Western Railroad passenger trains at 100 miles?
