Love this!! I remember as a child when hwy 47 crossed just north of Lee as well as the little cut through crossing (metal bed rail) north of that one, to jump over to Junior Order Home Rd in case 47 was blocked by a train. Then, the bridge overhead was built, and sometime later Metal Bed Rail crossing was removed. my dad drove a truck for Builders Transport, and I rode with him every summer when school was out, and I remember Metal Bed Rail was always activated with no train around. Probably one of the other reasons other than the bridge being built, and crossing reduction saftey initiatives led to it being removed. Now, this is my everyday territory. Almost every trip in and out, i think about the late 80s and early 90s how things were around there. Thanks for posting and keeping a small jewel of an area more than a memory, but an actual piece of history to look back at!

I wonder if there are any of theYadkin River bridge just south of the yard. The old US29 bridge is still next to it but for pedestrians only. I’d imagine that would be a good spot. I worked at the Linwood yard late 70’s when being built.
