Of all the thousands of videos I've seen, you're the first photographer who talks about lighting. I've been a professional photographer, since 1975. Everything shot on film. Lighting is so important. Some videos I see, are shot directly into the sun. The trains come out underexposed with flair galore. You know the rest. Polarizing filters also help, at times. Your shots came out fantastic. I like the one with the deer. The deer added some excitement. Great!
@RailfanRowan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Walter, there seem to be very few videographers that understand the concept of lighting, and I get a chance to meet plenty of photographers, who understand it but on the video side nobody seems to get it lol, hence why I talk about it! Glad you appreciate the effort!! All of these things play into my location decision-making on a chase!!

Glad to see you posting Rowan. As an activist via VHSR and VRPI I'd love to see passenger rail along the B line. Those small towns on that line and the many others in the Shenandoah Valley should get weekend tourists perhaps via some version of VRE weekend service some day. I'm sure the hotels and restaurants would appreciate the business!

As someone with a lifelong interest in still photography, I understand the importance of lighting in every image. Yet I would guess that how you use light may be different, in some cases, than how I would do so. Question: have you ever done any cinematography on the Port Branch, as it is called? It's the line that runs down the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, PA. to a small Maryland town called Perryville where a wye track connects it to what is today Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. I grew up on this line and recall seeing as a boy EMD F7s, GP9s and, because the line was electrified at that time, Pennsylvania Railroad's ubiquitous GG1 electric locomotives.

Rowan: At my age, I would find it a little stressful, for attempting to do what you do regularly. I understand age shouldn't become an issue, but in the human life cycle, it just does. So, I watch other video contributors on youtube as well. Pennsylvania's 'Trains 21' with A.C., is a fantastic contributor, and he is not a spring chicken either. And then there Central Florida's Danny Harmon with 'Distant Signal', who has gray hair and a few face wrinkles. There are quite a few more, but they're in their prime. You have a great hobby, and you work diligently at it.
