Norfolk Southern Intermodal Train at Moon Siding near Fairfield, IL - April 19, 2024

Moon is a passing siding just a few miles west of Fairfield on Norfolk Southern's Southern West District, the former Southern mainline from St. Louis to Princeton, Indiana. On a pleasant afternoon in mid-April, we see signs of an approaching eastbound train. NS 219, a daily intermodal train out of Voltz Yard in Kansas City bound for East Point, Georgia crests the hill near the east end of Moon Siding on the approach to Fairfield.
